Introducing

The name Tattoo Gold was established in 2013 by Coen Mitchell. Coen specialises in Mandala, Dotwork, Ornamental, Realistic and his own Mosaic Flow Tattooing Style. In the Early stages of Coen’s career, he apprenticed at Taupou Tatau (Wellington, NZ) where he developed an advanced skillset in linework based tattooing - primarily through Polynesian and Maori art. Coen then

went on to working at Ship Shape Tattoo Studio (Auckland, NZ) where he was fortunate enough to further learn and extend his technical abilities in Realism Tattooing. Coen paid his due’s and respect in the New Zealand Tattooing industry and felt the need to really push his presence in the industry further which is when he decided to leave New Zealand early 2017 with a suitcase of Tattooing equipment to begin the journey of a lifetime with no plans but to tattoo around the world. Coen continued his world travels fulltime over 3 years, working in many world re-known Tattoo Studios and Conventions which really challenged him not only as an artist, but also as a young Kiwi adult from Bulls. During his travels Coen’s main drive was to focus on becoming the best artist he could be, learning business fundamentals, growing the Tattoo Gold brand and developing new life skills. Fortunately, on his travels, Coen met his partner Maxime in Amsterdam and they have now moved back and opened Tattoo Gold, a high-end professional Tattoo Studio in Takapuna, Auckland, New Zealand. Tattoo Gold is the home of driven, talented and creative artists who all have a strong passion for Tattoos and Coen is proud of what Tattoo Gold has become and its beautiful feature ahead.

We actually did it. 🇳🇱

A few months ago, this was just a massive decision we were trying to make. Now we’ve packed up our entire life in New Zealand and moved to the Netherlands.

We closed Tattoo Gold Studio Auckland, sold almost everything from our studio and home, packed what we could into a few suitcases and booked a one-way flight.

Leaving New Zealand was probably the hardest part. Our family, friends, clients and a place that has always been home. There were definitely moments where I questioned whether we were doing the right thing.

But sometimes you have to be willing to completely change your life to see what else is possible.

Years of travelling and tattooing through Europe meant I already had an amazing client base here, and with family around us, we had an opportunity to give this a real shot.

So that’s what we’re doing.

We’re now living about an hour outside Amsterdam, near Arnhem, while we build Tattoo Gold Netherlands from the ground up. A smaller, more personal studio, more time with my family, more travelling and conventions, and more space for me to focus on what I actually want to create as an artist.

It’s a massive change.
This is the start of something completely new for us.

June 2026 - end of lease date

Today I hand the keys back to the Tattoo Gold Auckland studio premise here on the North Shore, New Zealand.

It’s hard to put six years into words. What was once an empty space became a second home to so many artists.

When I look back, I’m most grateful for the people. The clients who trusted us and being able to help them by using our skills as creatives. The silent helpers who stepped up for me, when I couldn’t be everywhere at once.
And my wife, who I told I’ll be home in an hour, to only getting caught up for hours more.

What’s crazy is that when I look at everything we achieved in just six years, it doesn’t make me feel sad. It makes me excited. I really did it.
I’m excited for what’s next, with so much more experience behind me not only as an artist, business owner or boss, but as a man.

Six years ago, we opened the doors to Tattoo Gold Takapuna with a vision of building something we could truly be proud of.

Since then, it’s become a special space for us. So it does feel sad to soon close our doors for the last time.

Thousands of clients, world-class artists, friendships, memories, a team, and a space that became a second home for many of us.

Behind the scenes, we poured everything into it. Long days, late nights tattooing, designing, drawing, emails, admin, reviews, cleaning, managing people, ordering stock, the list goes on. Not because we had to work this much, but because we genuinely cared about what we were building and the people involved in it, has been second nature.

We built something special here, and we were proud to share it with all of you.

At the end of May 2026, Tattoo Gold Takapuna will officially close its doors as we prepare for the next chapter of our lives.

Later this year, we’ll be going overseas and building something new:

Located around one hour from Amsterdam.

The new studio will become home to myself, , with new artists eventually joining in the future. Being based in the heart of Europe will allow easier access to international conventions again for me, guest spots across Europe, and a much bigger stage for the work we love creating.

Most importantly though, this positioning is something really special for my little family at this stage of our lives.

New Zealand will always be home. I’ll continue returning regularly to tattoo in Auckland, see family and friends, and stay connected to everything we’ve built here. I’m just splitting my time between the two countries - not completely relocating, my studio will just be in a different country now.

To every single person who walked through our doors, supported us online, trusted us with your tattoo, or believed in what we were building, thank you.

I’m looking forward to seeing you either near Amsterdam or back again in Auckland soon ✌️
