A great picture of an Altec M11 microphone at work in days past. I’ve seen other pictures of the microphone being used on voice in a live settings also but we normally use this microphone for ambient pickup (a room mic).
It’s an omni pattern valve condenser and one of only a few condenser microphones made by an American company certainly up into the 80s.
They have a big bottom end and gentle top end which can be good for taming harsh cymbals.
Fun fact. My pair I bought in a parking lot in Culver City, LA. I was told by the guy (who I still chat to) that they were part of a church setup. I mean, they do sound heavenly.

When Abraham Kunin came into NorthWestern late last year to record some acoustic guitar I had no idea what it was for. It was just a lovely piece of music. Pretty thrilling when it then turns up on a Dalai Lama record. Martin guitar recorded in MId/Side with the Josephson C700S. Thanks Abe!

A new sound installation has popped up in Henderson outside the Waitakere Central Library.

These hue (gourds) play native bird calls and Taonga puoro (flute tones) along with the sound of wind and water that activates when people walk up to them.
