We are delighted to announce that Catherine Rhodes has joined Percy Thomson Trust as the new Gallery Director.

Catherine has had a long association with the art community, both in and beyond Taranaki. After gaining a degree in art history she worked at New Plymouth’s Govett-Brewster Art Gallery before moving to the Biennale of Sydney. Returning to Aotearoa, she was Gallery Manager at Tinakori Gallery and Page Blackie Gallery in Wellington, prior to coming home to Taranaki to open her own Anderson Rhodes Gallery and provide contract art services. She has written on art for a number of publications, including Art New Zealand, is current Chair of Creative Taranaki, a Creative Communities assessor, and managed New Plymouth’s Trade Aid shop for a period.

“I’ve been a long-term follower of the work that Percy Thomson Gallery has done over many years, and applaud the contribution it has made both regionally and nationally,” says Catherine.

“I see many exciting opportunities to work with Percy Thomson Trust, the gallery team and the wider creative sector to develop exhibitions and events that reflect and strengthen the community, help ensure Stratford is on the map for cultural tourism, and give our artists a place to share their work and engage with art from beyond the district.”

Catherine started on Monday 3 February and takes the reins from Maree Burnnand who has done an incredible job as Acting Gallery Director since October. Catherine and Maree are busy working with the gallery team to install the next exhibition that opens on Friday.
