Storyhouse Storytelling Performances, Workshops, Trainings, Mentoring. Lectures, Talks

Storyhouse Philippines is derived from the word storehouse, changing the “e” into “y” just like in the movie “Pursuit of Happyness.” In Filipino, we may call it “Kuwentong Bahay” because there are stories in store in the house; it was last March 2011, the year I founded the group. The prime objective is to promote the Art of Oral Storytelling. It is a dynamic, innovative, and professional company

that offers something magical. We aim to promote quality storytelling performances, seminars, workshops, and events that will instill a love for learning and the arts that features undeniably exciting ways to motivate the minds to imagine and think. Furthermore, for us at Storyhouse Philippines, stories are TOLD rather than read aloud. Stories are not read from books but retold by the tellers, making each interpretation unique. Storyhouse Philippines is an open organization that welcomes anyone interested in oral storytelling, whether teller, listener, beginner, or professional. We are actively bringing like-minded people together to enjoy, discuss and practice the art of storytelling. It also offers opportunities, resources, events, workshops, coaching, mentoring, and accreditation for storytellers. We provide an avenue or forum for storytellers to share their skills.

“The mind that opens to a new idea; never comes back to its original size.” Albert Einstein

I first met Diane Ferlatte in 2015 when I traveled to California to participate in the Bay Area Storytelling Festival.

After Vicky Reed picked me up from Rockridge Station, she helped me settle into the house where I would be staying. Before heading to ocular visit the venue, we stopped by Diane’s home for a light snack.

At that time, I didn’t know who Diane was. Yet within moments of meeting her, we were already laughing together over the simplest things. We shared stories about our cultures, our daily routines, and even the little joys and challenges of working in the kitchen. Her warmth and genuine spirit made me feel instantly welcome.

Later that day, I searched her name online and discovered that Diane Ferlatte was an iconic, internationally renowned African American storyteller and a Grammy-nominated recording artist. I was amazed. Despite her remarkable accomplishments, she welcomed me with such humility, kindness, and joy.

Although we never had the opportunity to perform together on the same stage, that brief encounter has stayed with me ever since. It reminded me that the greatest storytellers don’t just tell stories—they make people feel seen, valued, and at home.

The storytelling community mourns your passing, Diane. May your warm, charismatic presence be remembered for years to come.

Free Online Oral Storytelling Event

"You can do it!" Four simple words that have inspired heroes, comforted friends, encouraged dreamers, and given courage to the timid for generations.

Join us for an uplifting evening of stories celebrating determination, resilience, and the power of encouragement. Through traditional folktales, timeless legends, personal experiences, and contemporary creative tales, storytellers may share journeys of ordinary people and extraordinary characters who faced daunting challenges and discovered that they could indeed succeed.

Every story will include the words "You can do it!"—whether whispered by a wise elder, shouted by loyal companions, spoken as a promise to oneself, or offered as a lifeline in a moment of doubt.

Come and laugh, reflect, and be inspired by stories that remind us that, whatever the obstacle, a little courage and a few encouraging words can make all the difference.
Because sometimes, the most powerful thing anyone can hear is: "You can do it!"
The stories are told, not read.

This is a free online event. Information and registration: australianstorytellers.org.au/events
Come as a listener or teller. All welcome.
