It's the 12th month of us owning The Wool Shop well it's been the most exciting and the most exhausting of rides!...

I'm only just starting to feel like we're moving into a sustainable rhythm of work and life.

We stopped working seven days a week about four months ago ( we might not have been open on a Sunday but we were still going in to fulfill orders and restock for the week)

And this upcoming weekend we start having one actual full weekend off a month - because we have the most incredible team in Jo, Rebekah and Oli.

I've had to rebuild my routines, my habits, our whole ways of doing things from scratch as we've juggled two businesses with family, and life in general.

Very few habits of self care survived to be honest! Pilates, a regular walk with a friend, and... my daily mini face massage with ConvictionSkin oil - truth is for at least the first nine months I felt like I was camping in our home as we were rarely there!

So in this month before we hit a year of The Wool Shop I wanted to share with you one of the rituals I managed to keep. Our September Kit of the Month has arrived, and this time you have two yarn choices!

The Briar Tee is a beautiful new pattern from Kiniki available exclusively through The Wool Shop during September. It has a twisted ‘briar’ stitch panel running down the centre front, a simple shoulder-saddle construction, and a shape that feels incredibly wearable.

There is also something a little unusual about how it is made.

The Briar Tee is knitted top-down, but it is worked flat in pieces and seamed. The front and back are worked separately, then the sleeve stitches are picked up around the armholes. So, if you love the flexibility of top-down knitting but would rather use straight needles than knit an entire garment in the round, this may be exactly the tee you have been waiting for.

Working from the top also means you can adjust the body and sleeve length as you go, which is always useful. ( Bodies have a habit of refusing to match the measurements in a pattern exactly!)

For September, you can choose between two kits:
Sundune Fibres Dunes, a beautiful and buttery soft 100% New Zealand Polwarth wool with a lovely rustic character.

Or Outlaw Yarn Rebel Worsted, a soft and wonderfully wearable blend of New Zealand Merino and Halfbred wool.

The pattern includes instructions for two different gauges, 16 or 18 stitches per 10 cm, which gives you more flexibility with your yarn choice. It is sized to fit busts from 71 cm through to 147 cm and is suitable for advanced beginners who are ready to knit a garment with a little bit of interesting detail.

(PLEASE DO A GAUGE TEST!)

The Briar Tee pattern is exclusive to us for September, and it is included with both kit options.

Now your only real problem is choosing your yarn and colour. Which, as we all know, can take significantly longer than knitting the actual swatch. :P
