A Painter and Sculptor, not limited by one medium and with a broad range of style, “every artwork being unique”. Living in Kutarere - Bay of Plenty, with two small children and a husband who is a mushroom farmer. o loves a good op shop, working at 'Xtreme Zero Waste' Raglan -recycling facility for years upcycling old retro frames and found objects, seeing the beauty in unwanted possessions. Only relocating to the lush Whakatane/Opotiki region 9 months ago, she is lapping up the scenery and friendly community! Being involved in the arts community, in the Waikato for years, she enjoys collaborating on exhibitions and creative endeavors and sharing the love by teaching kids clay and upcycling workshops. She also helped run art studios and an art collective in the town centre of Raglan for 8 years 'Ahoy Creative Crew'. She looks forward to getting more involved in the arts locally, currently, she is part of the 'Whakatane Arts Society' and loves sitting the Pop-up shop locally, located at the Hub – Coastlands. She one daydreams of running a creative space again.

Our Story

Jodi studied at Media arts at Waikato institute of technology where she finished in 2005 with a Bachelor in Media arts and honors. Involved in the local art community, such as the ‘Old school’ art centre, she took part in the clay shed where she runs various clay workshops with children and ‘Funked up Junk’kids upcycling workshops Her paintings are not limited by one medium and with a broad range of style, “every artwork being unique”. She works with oils, acrylics and water colour, painting often on canvas, board or paper also upcycling old retro frames and found objects, seeing the beauty in unwanted possessions. Known for creations such as -‘Mutt Face gang’ hand sewn soft toys made with retro fabric and buttons eco friendly, some with hand painted faces…have been described as ‘Frankenstein creations’. ‘Popin Snippets’ Badges, Magnets and earrings made with a range of material, ceramic, cork, wood, felt , retro fabric/wallpaper and children’s books , eco friendly they are made from 95% recycled materials.

But more recently she is known for her sculptures made from clay and re purposed bits and bobs she assembles together...whimsical, dreamlike, bizarre and childish themes.

‘Skully Wags’ Skeleton puppets, ceramic limbs and head, put together with copper wire adorned with buttons, jewelry bits and discarded treasure, each skeleton has its own character never one the same.

‘Molly Moppet’ dolls with ceramic limbs and head, adorned with old crockery and teaspoons, buttons and treasure, each one unique with a story to tell. The artist enjoys collaborating on shows, involved in running former galleries such as ‘Platform 01 artspace’ Victoria St Hamilton, ‘Gallery east’ Grey St Hamilton and ‘Hive gallery’ Bow St Raglan and worked part time at ‘Jet Collective’, for the past almost eight years she has been apart of a artist run space Gallery and Studios right in the heart of Raglan on Bankart Street where she makes and sells her creations. The space has been know by many names is now called ‘Ahoy Creative Crew’ for the past 3 years.
