I had the pleasure of hosting a great guest in the darkroom yesterday. Mrs Duncan used to teach in the darkroom and at the high school. She immediately recognised the furniture, the equipment and the smells. And more importantly for me, was able to help identify some of the names of students past still attached to the darkroom. We had great fun making some images and then looking through some of the students work books that I still have. I wish I could do the high school course myself! It’s obvious they were learning so much and were producing some great work under the excellent guidance of their teacher Mrs Brown. I wish I could show you more but in the interests of protecting identities I won’t. But if you do recognise your work, get in touch! I’d love to get you back making work in the darkroom.

Family of four visiting from San Francisco? 🇺🇸No problem? Big age difference between the kids? Sorted. Fun and engaging for all ages? ✅ Memorable and unique Queenstown experience? 🏆

These two were troopers today in the rain! Seattle natives so they barely even noticed!

Successful print session yesterday in the darkroom. Spent some time calibrating papers and enlargers and getting my settings dialed in a bit more. This print is just a quick work print straight off the neg. No adjustments from standard.

I’ll be honest, this is the fiddly bit and other people are way better at this than me! It’s essential your film is thoroughly dry too if you want to have any hope of getting it into the archival sleeves. You’ll learn how and get to try it yourself in my 3 hour darkroom experience right here in Queenstown NZ. Booking links in profile.

Not every Queenstown day needs to be full noise.

The Queenstown Darkroom is a calm, hands-on experience where you slow down, learn the basics of film photography, and make a physical print to take home.

It’s great option for those rest days, less than stellar weather, or just a spare half day in town.
