Let's get to know RE:z a bit better! The feel good roots/rock/reggae duo that will be storming the stage on Tues 5th Nov at Lokal Kitchen & Bar!
Our final Uncovered: An Original Music Showcase for this short and sweet season, so there's no time like the present to grab a ticket.

We caught up with singer and guitar looping extraordinaire Peti, and he gave us the low down on all things RE:z ..
How did you two meet?
I was at SIT Cert Music and sitting on a drum kit. Jezza walked in, fresh as to Invercargill, introduced himself, and we were friends. We have been friends now for close to 20 years and worked on a lot of projects and seen heaps of life together.

What's your musical background?
My Dad is a musician, and when I was about 6 or 7 he took me to sing with his band "Bob Mason and the Apaches". They would work with kids in Invercargill kids and give them an experience to play and learn music craft from real top country players. I played in front of my first crowd and didn't look back.

How did this magical duo begin?
Since 2009 in one form or another. First, as Jahfire with Paratene Johnson, then Ghettoblaster with Matt Eddy and Mark Godhino. We had a duo called Bobby and the Coconut for a while (🤣) but now decided to go with Re:Z.

Your Inspirations?
A swift kick up the ass! - and that's Jezza. He inspires me every day with how much work he puts in and how much he gives to everyone, and he keeps me inspired to keep playing and pushing to be better. He's the brother, and long may the jams go on. It's been one fun ride, so I'm looking forward to the next 20 laps.

Another highly anticipated show!! 🔥 A legend returns to Uncovered in a new dynamic duo for one night only!
The last time Peti performed, it was some of the BEST live music we have experienced in a long time.
Well-crafted songs, incredible looping skills, catchy melodies, and infectious groovy roots and reggae rhythms ...

Re:Z is the level up, we cannot wait to see what Peti and Jez have in store for us!

Combine a 20 year friendship, a great sense of humour, musical training, and incredible support from family and the community .. and the result is Re:Z.
The energy that they bring to the table is unrivaled only by their musical skills and songwriting talent.

A rearranging of the "Ghettoblaster" roots/rock/reggae sound for a two-piece band. Utilizing live loops to create a four-piece sound.

The duo inspires each other to write and play and, in turn, inspires us!

Starting at the age of 16, this talented and soulful lady is influenced by the likes of Jeff Buckley, Emily Haines and Amy Winehouse

We caught up with Rosa about her upcoming show THIS TUESDAY 29th Oct at Lokal Kitchen & Bar! Delve into her musical inspiration and motivations.

▪️What should we expect on 29th October?
I've written a LOT of new songs since my last show, some of which I've posted bits of online, some of which are very fresh and unheard by anyone yet - so a very different and unique show from the last one.
I feel like my writing and I have evolved even since March, so hopefully, something new all round!

▪️What is motivating you on the run-up to the show?
The drive to create a special evening that is really honest, that will allow the audience to really get soaked into my writing and story, and hopefully that folks will be able to resonate with in some way or another ... Lesshgooo!

▪️What is your biggest musical inspiration at the moment?
Hozier is really having an impression on me currently. The way he creates such an engaging rhythm in the vocal melodies and manages to make songs that are both dark, inspiring, and uplifting all at the same time is genius.
Ben Howard will forever be one of my longest running inspirations as well.. just stunning melodies and guitar, such introspective lyrics; often complex but still extremely relatable.
It's hard to narrow it down, though. I've been listening to a lot of Al Green and Aretha Franklin, enjoying those soulful melodies and old-school sound.

▪️How does it feel to be leaving Aotearoa for a bit?
Honestly a bit heartbreaking to be leaving such a beautiful community that I've found and that has found me, it's been 6/7 years of life in Queenstown, I'm so happy I stumbled across this place, its a bit surreal.
I will really miss everyone and also the beauty, which is a short skip and a jump away from my doorstep.
I'm also very very excited to explore a new country, discover new communities, and have loads of new experiences! And of course, excited to come back and appreciate this home away from home even more - as a fully fledged NZ Resident, no less!
