Aotea College shone at the Smokefreerockquest heats on June 14th! Two bands—White Widow and Rhythm and Soul—took the stage this year, made up mostly of Year 12 students from the Music 200 class, along with one talented Year 11 student. White Widow, featuring Blake, Xavier, Kelton, and Macklin, brought high energy and strong musicianship to their original set. Rhythm and Soul—made up of Malachi, Mazda, Ben, Sui, and Seth—delivered a dynamic and soulful performance that impressed the audience. Both bands showcased exceptional originality, stage presence, and performance skills. They should be incredibly proud of the compositions they wrote and the way they represented Aotea College on stage.

AJO & Sirius Groove Kick Off 2025 at Relay For Life

On April 5th, the Aotea Jazz Orchestra and Sirius Groove hit the main stage at Relay For Life, delivering their first performances of the year to an electric crowd at Sky Stadium. The support from friends, whānau, and fellow Aotea College participants made the afternoon unforgettable.

Huge thanks to our amazing whānau for helping with the gear—your teamwork made the logistics a breeze. Shout-out to our performers for an epic start to the year, and to Eilidh Davidson for capturing it all on camera.

Next up: the Manawatu Jazz Festival in late May!
