There’s something so therapeutic about a walk on the beach at sunset with a pocket camera 📷
The series of images above were shot on this little pocket camera- SONY RX100vii Cybershot, which I found soo impressive for its size. I love using my phone when I don’t have my camera on me but having a small pocket camera is far better than using phone because it doesn’t distract you with constant notifications on screen🔔

This Sunday, join me for a small-group, hands-on landscape workshop at Long Bay Regional Park. 🌅

Long Bay has given me so many reasons to keep coming back with my camera. These photographs, taken over the years, show some of what the beach reveals around sunset and low tide—rock-pool reflections, exposed reef and coastal textures.

Want to feel more confident shooting in manual? Unsure how to use your ND filters? We’ll work through settings, composition and long exposures, with time for questions and individual guidance as the evening light changes.

Every evening brings something different, but these images offer a little inspiration for what we might find. Fingers crossed for a colourful sunset! If heavy rain or unsuitable conditions are forecast, we’ll postpone.

What a brilliant morning exploring Auckland’s C*D 📸🏙️with the fellow photographers.

A huge thank you to everyone who joined me for the Architecture at Sunrise Photo Walk and stayed on for our coffee catch-up and image review afterwards. However, the sun didn’t come up but no rain either so we carried on..

While everyone was busy observing the city through their cameras, looking for light, reflections, patterns, lines and architectural details-I found myself equally drawn to photographing the photographers themselves.

The result is a story within the story: images of the city alongside the people exploring it, experimenting with different perspectives and sharing the experience together.

This is something I love about the power of photography. It doesn’t simply show us what a place looks like; it can tell the story of how we experienced it and the people who were part of that moment.

Thank you again to everyone who came along and made the morning so enjoyable. Please share your images from the session- I would love to see what caught your eye!

🌿 Macro Photography at the Winter Gardens 📷

Join me this Sunday, 4 October for a hands-on Macro Photography Workshop exploring flowers, textures, patterns and the smaller details in nature.

We’ll cover the basics of using a macro lens, including focus, depth of field, aperture and composition, with plenty of time to experiment. Sony macro lenses will also be available to try.

☕ Come early if you can from 8:30–9:30am, we’ll have a coffee catch-up before the workshop. Bring your gear, ask questions, and have a look at the macro lenses I’ll be bringing along before we head out to photograph.

Exploring with the Sony 600mm F4 G Master and absolutely loving it! 🦢📷

My first time trying this beast of a lens, and I already have far too many photographs I’d love to share. This swan feeding at a local pond is one of my favourites so far, the detail and sharpness really stood out to me. Swipe to see the SOOC RAW.

I’m so impressed with how quickly it focuses and just how sharp the results are. Bird photography has always been a big love of mine, and this lens is making it even more fun to get out, explore and see what the birds around us are up to.

What an amazing session last evening creating monochromatic portraits with our brilliant models, Lucy and Sabine! 🔴📷

We worked with simple lighting and explored how bringing a single colour into the styling, background and overall setup can create portraits that feel cohesive, interesting and impactful from the very first glance.

Everyone had time to experiment with lighting a subject, working with a model and making small adjustments to see how much they could change an image. I think everyone left with plenty of photographs and hopefully a little more confidence around studio lighting too!

I was so busy explaining, arranging lights and helping everyone shoot that I barely made any images myself, which is probably a good sign. 😂 I did manage a few, along with some behind-the-scenes photographs from the evening.

A huge thank you to Lucy and Sabine, and to everyone who came along and made it such a fun session.

Please share your photographs and tag me & our brilliant models -I’ll be keeping an eye out because I can’t wait to see what everyone created!

The Monochromatic Portrait Photography Workshop is now live! 🔴📷

Working with one colour is far from limiting. By bringing the wardrobe, background, props and lighting into harmony, we can remove distractions and create portraits that feel bold, cohesive and full of personality.

This will be a practical and supportive introduction to studio portraiture. We’ll work with a professional model and one simple light while exploring camera settings, light placement, posing and composition. Everyone will have time to experiment with the setup and create their own images.

This workshop is perfect if studio lighting has always felt intimidating, or if you have little experience working with lights or directing a model. No complicated setups- just clear guidance, simple ideas and plenty of hands-on practice.
