The Browns Bay Sunrise Photography Workshop is now live! 🌅📷

Join me at Browns Bay Beach on Sunday 13 September as we photograph the transition from blue hour into sunrise and the beautiful early-morning light that follows.

We’ll explore coastal composition, camera settings, exposure and ways to work with the shoreline, cliffs, reflections, foreground elements and movement of the tide to create stronger seascape images.

📅 Sunday 13 September
⏰ 6:15–8:15 am
📍 Browns Bay Beach
🎟 $15 per person
👥 Maximum 15 participants

After the workshop, you’re also welcome to join our separately booked Coffee Catch-up and Image Review. We’ll sit down over coffee, ☕️ at Java Jungle Cafe just across from the beach &
review some of the images everyone has created and discuss what worked. I’ll also demonstrate a few super-fast editing techniques to help make your photographs look their best using your phone or tablet.

The two events are connected, but you don’t need to attend both—you’re welcome to book either one or make a morning of it and join us for both!

That time of the year is here again… 🌸🐝

Longer days, warmer light, flowers everywhere — and I can’t wait to be out chasing bees and blossoms, golden sunrises and sunsets, and all the colour that comes with spring.

Hello, September. Hello, spring. 🌸☀️

My favourite season of creating with colour is here…

August has always been special to me. It’s my birthday month, and this year it seems to have saved one more little gift for the very end. 💛

And with spring 🌸 beginning tomorrow, it feels like rather perfect timing for a new beginning of my own.

I’m delighted to be joining the 📸 Sony fam as one of their Digital Imaging Advocates.

What makes this especially exciting for me is where my photography journey seems to be taking me lately. I’ve been loving teaching more and more and sharing what I know, meeting people who are equally excited about photography, and watching someone understand their camera or discover a new way of creating an image.

This opportunity means I can do much more of that.

More workshops. More opportunities to learn together. More experimenting, creating, getting outdoors and hopefully helping people develop their photography along the way.

And it only feels right that I start from home. ❤️

My first Sony Scene workshop is happening at Waiake Beach on 5 September, just down the road from me and at a beach I’ve photographed countless times over the years.

A birthday month ending, spring beginning, and a new adventure starting.

I think I’ll remember this August for a while. 🌸

See you at Waiake- Book your spot here ⬇️

First trial of the new 📸Sony A7R6 this morning and soooo impressed with how fast it detects and stays with the eye/ subject- just a very casual attempt at capturing the duck in action, very poor light and completely handheld shots. Results speak for themselves- edited in Lr mobile super quick. Looks like I’m falling for birds in action 😄

Well, the Golden Hour Portrait Workshop certainly lived up to its name! ☀️📷

After what had been a pretty gloomy day, the sun decided to turn up too… and gave us the most gorgeous golden light to work with.

A huge thank you to everyone who came along. It was such a great group, and I loved seeing everyone experimenting, trying different lenses, sharing ideas and creating together.

A very special thank you to our wonderful model Mya, who was incredibly patient and generous with a whole group of photographers pointing cameras at her!

This was the first time I’ve run a portrait workshop in this format, so I’d genuinely love your feedback. If you attended, tell me what worked, what you enjoyed, and what you think I could do differently next time. I want these workshops to keep getting better.

As a photographer and a former teacher, there’s something incredibly rewarding about helping people learn and grow. There are no secrets to my work. If I know something that can help another photographer, I’m more than happy to share it. And the joy of getting together, shooting, experimenting and learning from each other is pretty hard to beat.

Thank you also to Sony New Zealand and Massey University Albany Photography Club for helping make this workshop possible.

And thank you Harsh*t for these brilliant behind-the-scenes photos. More to come!

For now, stay tuned… the next workshop announcement is coming soon. 👀📷
