Creative Calm Unleash your creative side through fully facilitated art workshops with a focus on well-being. My name is Dee Wilson. I have always found art very therapeutic.

I am a artist and Primary Teacher, living in Pirongia, 20 minutes south of Hamilton. I would now like to share my passion for creativity with you. If you are 18 years and over and have always wanted to paint or make something creative, but have not had the confidence or known where to start, then my fully facilitated workshops are for you. Alternatively, if you lead a very busy lifestyle and need

time out to unwind, then these workshops are absolutely perfect for you too. No prior painting experience is needed. I will provide a nurturing, calm and creative environment (hence the name ‘Creative Calm’) to support you to unleash your creativity while also showing you the calming effect creating can have on your well-being. If this sounds like something you would like to be a part of, then please follow my page to stay updated with what will be on in 2023. Some of the workshops on offer this year will include: Geometrical Abstract using Acrylics (this workshop is also offered separately using Watercolours), Abstract Acrylics (inspired by Aboriginal techniques), Abstract Watercolours, Woven Watercolours, Mandalas with Watercolour, Zentangle with Watercolour, Abstract Collage, Still Life Collage, Weaving and hopefully Printmaking. Creative Trail Spotlight: Dee Wilson – Painter

A returning face to the Waipā Creative Trail but in a new way, Dee moves from exhibiting in the previous Trail to hosting her own stop this year.

Based in Pirongia, she works predominantly in acrylic and watercolour across both large and small-scale pieces.

Her work sits in the abstract space, where nature, movement, shape, and colour come together. Drawn to spontaneity and freedom, Dee paints intuitively, often inspired by natural elements, texture, colour relationships, and geometric forms.

For Dee, colour is a language in itself, exploring its power to express ideas and emotions in a way that's both natural and honest.

Alongside her painting practice, Dee also runs ‘Creative Calm’ workshops from her home studio. She offers a space for people to slow down, reconnect, and explore their own creativity in a supportive, pressure-free environment.

Abstract art is a style of visual art that does not attempt to represent an accurate depiction of reality. The emphasis is often on colour, line, shapes, texture and composition rather than a realistic representation.

When you remove all pressure of realistic representation it allows you to paint intuitively and simply enjoy the process.

If you have always wanted to give painting a go, this workshop is perfect for you. You will be totally supported to create your own work in a safe and nurturing environment.

Abstract Acrylics are suitable for anyone, including beginners. This is a fun and playful workshop. Each persons work will be their own creation and uniquely different.

In this piece called 'Allsorts', I have used black board with simple shapes, dots and flowing lines with bright colours to make my painting pop! This is just one example that may inspire you to create your own piece of work. On the day I will have lots of images available to inspire your creativity.

You too will use black board. I have a vast range of colours for you to pick from. Your design can be as complicated, expressive or as simple as you like. I will be there to support and guide you through the whole process.

I know a lot of my loyal 'Creative Calm' followers are wanting florals and these are coming next term. Your 'Magical Mandala' could however be very floral in its creation.

Remember, this workshop is totally beginner friendly. I will be there to guide you as much, or as little, as you need every step of the way
