Look who has come out to play, one of our four tuatara here at EcoWorld Aquarium.
Did you know tuatara are the only surviving members of the order Sphenodontia from the age of the dinosaurs, 200 million years ago? All species, except the tuatara declined and became extinct about 60 million years ago.

Open Daily from 10am. NZ has only one species of seahorse, Hippocampus abdominalis which means seahorse monster. Seahorses belong to the family Syngnathidae (fused jaw) which also includes sea dragons and pipefish. Seahorses have some remarkable adaptations, including the ability to change colour even more distinctive than chameleons, hard bony body armour, prehensile tail used for gripping, binocular vision and an unusual form of reproduction. Did you know Seahorses and their close relatives are the only species where the male gets pregnant and gives birth? Have fun viewing these taonga at EcoWorld. We are open daily from 10am. Feeding and talks are at 11am and 2pm.
