Jonathan Mark James Stowers is a man that should need no introduction. If you’ve been to literally any of our jungle nights you would have read about how he is one of the most infamous and important figures in the evolution of the jungle and DnB movement here in Auckland and even Aotearoa. But if you read more carefully then you’d know that before 48Sonic, Mr. Stowers was first and foremost a Techno DJ.
Legend has it, sometime in the early 2000s after smashing club Calibre, 48 rocked across the road into Ink Bar where his long term friend and fellow dance music pioneer, Greg Churchill was headlining. 48 apparently picked up Greg’s records and started mixing them straight off his ear without having listened to a single one of them prior and shut Ink Bar down just to prove he was still a Techno DJ.
We’ve heard this myth many times, but it has never been proven, so on this night we will finally get to the bottom of whether the myths and legends they speak of this set are actually true and whether Mr. Stowers can infact shutdown Ink Bar, with the debut of his tech-house alias 4Dozen.
