Remembering Martin Haua

It’s still hard to believe Martin is gone.

Just last year, he sang a solo with Kāpiti Chorale.

On Sunday evening at St James, a large choir came together in his honour.
Singers from many groups he had been part of over the years filled the church. The sound was strong, full, and exactly what he would have loved.

Martin was a much-loved tenor and a generous musician. He sang with Kāpiti Chorale and many other choirs and quartets in the region.

For those of us who knew him, it meant a lot to be there and sing together again, with him in our thoughts.

We will miss him.

“Help, Lord!”
If you were at our Elijah performance on Sunday, you’ll know exactly how big that first moment felt. What a way to begin an afternoon we’ll remember for a long time!

Thank you to everyone who joined us. The energy in St Paul’s Church was incredible, and sharing this huge, dramatic work with a full audience made the whole afternoon unforgettable. 🎶

Under the direction of Eric Sidoti, with Jonathan Berkahn on organ, the choir, orchestra, and soloists poured everything into this performance. And it was amazing to feel that energy echoed back from the audience.

We were thrilled to sing alongside Joseph Haddow, Emily-Jane Stockman, Charlotte Secker, Jamie Young, and youth soprano Natalie Mower; all giving standout performances that brought the story to life.

There were moments that lifted the entire room, from the balcony “angels” to the quiet passages that held everyone completely still. Many of you told us afterwards that you had goosebumps, tears, or just the thrill of being swept up in the music. ❤️

Here are some photos from the day: the choir in full voice, our soloists, the special presentations, and even baby Elijah making his appearance!

Thank you again for being part of such a memorable performance. We loved sharing this music with you.
