INDEPENDENT WOOL AUCTION NAPIER
AUCTION COMMENTRY
With another cold snap in the mix, the market warmed up β€” and so did the bidding!
The majority of the Kells catalogue consisted of second-shear ewes and hoggets, with a lower-yielding offering overall. Despite this, it was great to see a solid lift in the average greasy price, bringing values back to April levels.
A positive day in the auction room, with stronger bidding and improved returns across the board

MARKET EXPORTS
BUYER ACTIVITY: Steady competition. Full clearance. Export demand was evident in the sale, with buyers back in the market and competing strongly across the offering. A lower supply over the past few weeks has kept the pressure on exporters, although a reset was needed after June levels rose too quickly for exporters to sustain it seems the market has adjusted with a gradual
increase.

Napier Wool Auction Market Report
AUCTION COMMENTRY
With the heat pump working overtime in Napier and snow falling across much of the country, Tuesdays market delivered a settled performance.
The buying bench was active and engaged throughout the auction, providing strong support across the catalogue. The catalogue was dominated by shorter hogget shears and oddments which weighted in on the lower average yield and greasy price.
Long wool types stole the show, attracting the strongest competition of the day and achieving firm prices. Long bellies and pieces also generated keen buyer interest, helping underpin a positive selling result.

MARKET EXPORTS
Buyer activity steady competitive bidding helping achieve a 96% clearance rate.
Current export market conditions continue to reflect China's reluctance to pay the elevated price levels reached at the end of the previous selling season. This cautious approach has had a flow-on effect. Global economic uncertainty also adding pressure to exports.

NAPIER WOOL AUCTION

AUCTION COMMENTRY
A Tough day at the auction, with reduced buyer interest and fewer orders seeing prices ease back to levels last seen in early March.
While the market softened, this appears to be largely driven by the current abundance of short wools on offer, giving buyers plenty to choose from. The underlying demand for well-prepared, quality longer lines remain in favour.

MARKET EXPORTS
Reduced participation from Chinese and Indian buyers, a stronger US dollar, and ongoing high fuel costs were the key factors behind today's softer market.
Initially 42% passed in, but thanks to our buyers staying engaged and willing to negotiate after the auction, the clearance rate improved to 96% sold.
A big thank you to today's buying bench for their commitment and support in achieving such a strong clearance under challenging market conditions

Napier Independent Wool Auction
The auction room was packed on Tuesday with a full panel of buyers and plenty of growers coming along to see what all the hype was about.
The market remained strong throughout the sale, with longer wool types stealing the show. A well-prepared line of early shears topping the auction
A great result and another positive day for the wool industry.

Let's talk wool prices and clear up some of the confusion around

Clean Wool Price vs Greasy Wool Price.

When wool comes off the sheep, it contains grease (lanolin), dirt, moisture, and vegetable matter. This is called greasy wool, and the price quoted on this basis is the greasy wool price.
After the wool is scoured (washed) and all the impurities are removed, what's left is the actual usable fibre. The value of this fibre is expressed as the clean wool price (COF)
Think of it this way:

πŸ‘ Greasy Wool Price = Price for the raw wool straight off the sheep.
🧢 Clean Wool Price (COF)= Price for the actual wool fibre after its washed.

Working Equations
Clean Wool Price = Greasy Wool Price Γ· Clean Yield (decimal)
Greasy Wool Price = Clean Wool Price Γ— Clean Yield (decimal)
