Viva is a choir that sings A Capella arrangements of contemporary and popular music. WHAT IF I’VE NEVER SUNG BEFORE OR CAN’T READ MUSIC??

HISTORY
VIVA started out as the Vocally Inclined Vets Association in 2010 but when it was realised there was no other active musical club on campus the group opened up to the wider student body. Until 2013 VIVA was one of the only musical groups on campus and we are currently the only active choir in Palmerston North that is aimed at the 18+ age group. CAMPUS & COMMUNITY INVOLVMENT
Over the past f

ew years we have performed at Graduation, Open Day, MUSA’s Unity and Diversity concert, Arts On Wednesday Flash Mob and Christmas Carols to name a few. Most recently we worked with Lost By Design, an alternative band from Lower Hutt, recording some vocals for their upcoming album. We put on our own concert at the end of the year, 2nd Semester September/October, which has had 100+ in attendance in 2012, 2013 and 2014. You do not need any previous singing experience or the ability to read music to be part of the choir. All you need to do is turn up and be ready to have some fun and the rest you’ll pick up along the way. Member are always ready to help each other out, and being in a supportive group will help your musical abilities grow! If you play an instrument, can conduct, arrange music or have any other amazing talents there is also the opportunity for you to develop these skills through the choir

Kia ora koutou katoa,

It is with a heavy heart that we are announcing the end of VIVA Massey University Choir.

As an exec, we were expecting it to end in 2024. We were fully prepared for this possibility but had some amazing people step up to help run it. 2025 was a roller coaster of emotions and events happening within and outside of the choir.

Those of us currently on the exec are having to step down due to time, study, and things in our personal lives which will make it hard for us to run it again this year. With no one stepping up to continue the choir, we have come to the decision to fold the club.

If, in the future, people wish to restart the choir, we will still have resources available for this.

In the mean time, we would like to thank Te Tira Ahu Pae for the continuous support over the last 14 years, as well as the various choir members, community members, venues, and vendors that have helped and supported us over the years.

Clubs day 2025 is tomorrow!!!! Make sure to come along between 11am and 2pm to say hi and to sign up if you are interested.

We also have our first practice tomorrow from 6:30pm to 8:30pm in SGP 1.04.

We hope to see you there!

Thank you to everyone who came along last night!! We had a blast and we hope you enjoyed yourselves too, and we hope you enjoyed the karaoke as well. More photos will be posted once we receive them from our amazing photographer Madison (massive thank you!).

We wouldn't have been able to pull this off without the efforts of our members, our amazing tech support from Ben (sorry for banishing you upstairs!) and Paul, videographers Kate and Paul Fabian, and again to Madison our photographer. Some of the photos posted today are also from Paul and Kate so a huge thank you to them as well.

We also want to thank Massey for allowing the use of the SGP building and Auditorium for last nights showcase, and Te Tira Ahu Pae for the continued support over the year.

All in all, an amazing finale for those of us who are moving on, and amazing final showcase of this years hardwork. We will see you all next time!

Come along to our showcase on Friday October 4th to see what we have done throughout the year.

We will be performing in the SGP Auditorium. Doors open at 6:30pm for a 7pm start. Entry is free as well.

Once the actual showcase is over we will also be hosting Karaoke.

Food and non-alcoholic drinks will also be provided on the day.

Why sing normal songs when you can sing songs that caused exestential crisis's for people

We will still be doing rehearsals over the next two weeks in our normal room (SGP 1.04) on Tuesdays and Fridays from 6:30pm. We will be working on songs we have already learnt in order to fine tune them
