Somehow January seems like eons ago! As I (try to) order my image files I’m reminded of a custom order I created at the beginning of the year.

A local couple who admired my work wanted a bespoke piece for their home. They were able to visit my home studio gallery and view works in the flesh in order to attain a clearer idea of my work and what they wanted.

Factors such as dimensions, technical information, type of feather, and budget were discussed and confirmed before the project went ahead. Once I was underway with the custom order I sent regular updates to keep my clients in the loop. Each hand-carved and painted feather is quite time consuming and I wouldn’t want people to think I’ve forgotten about them!

I’m always grateful to my supporters including those who commission me, purchase works and offer encouragement. If you would like to find out more about a custom order please contact me via my website clairejensenart.net

Pictured is a kererū wing feather in kauri, apx. 70cm long. Painted in acrylic, wood carvings not suitable for display in full sun or near heat. Indoor display only ☺️

In between carving, painting, packaging and admin tasks I’ve put together a wee montage ‘editorial’ using some recently acquired tech skills!
It almost worked out how I imagined it too 💭💭💭

I realise it’s tricky fully interpreting the feather carvings from the two-dimensional images online. Hopefully these examples will demonstrate sizes, settings and sheen in more detail.

Pictured are examples of 1m and 80cm tūī, kererū and kōtare (kingfisher) feathers presented as an installation. Also images are of tūī tail and wing feathers in neutral interior settings.

What do you think, does my editorial look pretty professional?

No time for staged studio shots! These beauties have only just left the work bench and will be packed ASAP for the trek up to the The Auckland Art Show this Friday to Sunday.

It will be a nice change of pace out of the workshop and region where I’ve been working solid for the last few months! Don’t think I’ll miss the housework and cooking either for a few days. 🧺🍳🧹

Thanks for supporting my social media and art, I really appreciate it and may even see you at the show.

Pictured in order kauri leaves in kauri, 1m tūī tail feather, kākā wing feather, kea wing feather, kakaho (toe toe flower), rimu kererū wing feather. All pieces designed to hang indoors, reclaimed timber and acrylic paint.

Sculpture and decor inspired by Aotearoa 🇳🇿, individually hand crafted and painted, made slowly and intimately 🐌💋. Opunake, New Zealand.

Only a few weeks now until I set off for the Auckland Art Show exhibition at the Viaduct Event Centre July 31-August 2. Check out Art Shows Across Aotearoa for more information about tickets, times, artists and more.

I’m honoured to have been selected for this prestigious event and will be showing alongside many other New Zealand artists for the duration of the weekend.

This will be my debut experience at an art show, I’ll be as stocked up as possible for cash and carry sales and hope to also meet lots of lovely folks there.

I’ve been focusing on making my carved wooden wall art for the show ,including native New Zealand feathers and leaves, along with ‘Aotearoa’ themed steel garden art.

Parting with work can sometimes be bitter sweet! I’ve only recently completed this selection of native New Zealand bird feather carvings which will soon be sent to their new corporate home.

I’m glad I took time to photograph them together, however, and appreciate what I’ve made. Destined to represent Aotearoa in an international office setting, I’m sure this collection will look stunning.

Represented in this collection of carved and painted feathers are kererū, kōtare, kea and tui. Each piece individually hand carved and painted over many hours!

I’ve recently had some of my more design based ideas made up for me in steel! I’m very excited to introduce my ‘Aotearoa’ sign in stainless steel suitable for indoors or out. An elegant and nostalgic design piece for those with New Zealand close to their heart ❤️. Piece measures 110cm long and will debut for sale at in Auckland July31-August 2.

A few pretty pairs, a growing collection of pieces being prepared for the in Auckland July 31-August 2. I’ll be focusing my efforts on some larger pieces also and hope to be nicely stocked up over the next few months.
