We’re kicking off our fundraising for a very special year for Highland Dancing in Taranaki...

🎉 2027 will mark the 20th Anniversary of the NZ Highland Dancing Championships & Supporting Events in New Plymouth! 🎉

Hosting an event of this scale takes a huge amount of fundraising, so we’re getting an early start with something we think you’ll rather enjoy… WINE & GIN! 🥂

Thanks to Wag & Co, you can stock up the wine rack, add something delicious to the gin cabinet, or get ahead on a few gifts — all while supporting our dancers and helping us bring the 20th Anniversary Championships to life.

Funds raised will go towards some of the major costs of hosting the Championships, including:

Today I am working on a power point to present at a "cultural day" at a local primary school. I have been looking through old photos and videos on my laptop and stumbled across this footage from 25 years ago in 2001. This video is of me (Morgan) dancing at Cowal Highland Gathering - the home of the World Championships when I was 8 years old. That day I won the 7-8 Years Scottish Championship, and so started the journey of returning to Scotland to compete every August for 13 years in a row! I won the Scottish Championships at Cowal every year consecutively at ages 8, 9, 10, 11, 12, 13, 14, and 15, as well as the Juvenile World Championship ages 12, 13, 14, 15, the Junior World Championship ages 16, 17 and the Adult World Championship at age 20 in 2013 before retiring. Watching this video brought tears to my eyes - knowing how much blood, sweat, tears, smiles, achievements, hard times, and memories were to follow in my dancing career. It seems like a another lifetime - and with Cowal 2026 having just passed this weekend, I am in absolute AWE of the women who I used to dance against that are STILL out there competing at World Championship level - to name a few: Marielle Lesperance, Rebecca Thow and Rachael Walker - you astound me! I have so much respect for every dancer who works to a high standard of Highland Dancing - it is still, by far, the hardest thing I have ever done both physically and mentally - and I applaud each and every one of you.

We would like to congratulate the 2026 World Highland Dancing Champions crowned over the weekend - Sadie, Connie and Marielle. A special congratulations to Marielle on her 10th world championship title. An amazing feat.
