Nelson Women's Refuge

Nelson Women's Refuge Our Vision is for Women and children in violence free communities living Safe and healthy lives for the generations to come.

We believe in:
•Accountability to ourselves, to women and other key interest groups.
•Diversity
•All women and children having equitable access to our services
•Working with women and children in a respectful, confidential, sensitive and non-judgemental manner
•Living and modelling non violent and non abusive behaviour
•Providing a quality service by working in an ethical and professional manner

Striving to improve our skills through, training, education and supervision
•Working with a feminist analysis which means an understanding of family violence as gender violence, namely: naming the violence, placing responsibility for violence where it belongs – no victim blaming, recognising the social, historical, cultural and political context in which family violence occurs; and assisting women and children to live without violence.
• Te Tiriti o Waitangi guiding our practice.
