***We have news!***
From next term, all of our classes will be held at Studio One in Rutherford Mews. We are not moving very far away from where we are now (less than 100 metres)!
We’ve had a wonderful 9 years at our HQ on crisps lane, but we know you will all enjoy our new home just as much as our old one.
Studio One Nelson will be our home from 3.30 -6pm from Mondays - Thursdays in term time.
See you all next term at Studio One 🤩

One of our amazing ex-tutors (and infact our very first SOUNDSTAGE contracted tutor) will be featured in Showbiz Christchurch production of Matilda - The Musical next year! Congratulations Sophie Elizabeth Ricketts!

Over the next few months leading up to the opening of Matilda – The Musical, we will introduce a member of both our childrens and adult cast each week.

This week we are getting to know Sophie Elizabeth Ricketts!

WHAT ROLE DO YOU PLAY IN MATILDA?
Mrs. Phelps, the librarian.

WHAT DO YOU LOVE ABOUT YOUR CHARACTER?
I love that my scenes are always with Matilda; my character is one of the very few positive adult influences in her life. 👩‍👧

WHAT’S YOUR REAL LIFE OCCUPATION?
I work as a learning designer for an interactive learning company. We design and build learning courses for all sorts of other organisations.💻

WHO WAS YOUR FAVOURITE TEACHER GROWING UP AND WHY?
My first grade teacher, Vange. She made an incredible first impression on me which kickstarted my love of learning. She was a generous teacher and built a lasting relationship with our family; she and my mum still send holiday cards to one another each year.👩‍🏫✡️

WHAT’S YOUR FAVOURITE BOOK?
Book for grownups: SALT by Mark Kurlansky. It tells the history of the world by tracing the origins and uses for salt across continents and centuries! This book is epic.

Book for children: believe it or not, it's MATILDA by Roald Dahl. I was given this book when I was eight and immediately fell in love with it. It will always have a special spot in my heart.

WHAT’S YOUR FAVOURITE MUSICAL THAT YOU’VE PERFORMED IN?
Blood Brothers, I played Linda. It was a really special production with an amazing cast and creative team. One of my co-stars is now performing on the West End!👬

WHEN YOU WERE YOUNG, WHAT JOB DID YOU WANT TO DO WHEN YOU GREW UP?
I was born in Minnesota, in the United States. Growing up in a cold climate, with a birthday in the middle of winter, one of my earliest dreams was to become an Olympic figure skater.⛸

WHAT FOOD DO YOU FIND MOST ReVoLtInG?
Rockmelon; I had an unfortunate incident of car sickness at a very young age and now my brain associates its taste with vomit. Yuck!🍉

Congratulations to ex SOUNDSTAGE student Chris Goodyear and ex SOUNDSTAGE tutor Sophie Ricketts on being cast in Showbiz Christchurch production of Matilda scheduled for next year!

After an exhaustive search, we are delighted to announce the cast of ‘Revolting Adults’ for our forthcoming production of Matilda – The Musical.

Term four is about to kick off for Singing, Acting and Dance at SOUNDSTAGE.
🤩
SOUNDSTAGE is the only performing arts school in Nelson that offers Acting, Singing and Dancing all in one unique place.
Originally the brainchild of Jane Baken (or Jane Winter as many of you know her), SOUNDSTAGE has been offering performing arts training since 2008.
SOUNDSTAGE is a place where kids can be themselves and train in Singing , Acting and Dance. Some of our students train in all three and some choose just one, it’s totally up to you 🤩.
18 Years of classes has seen us produce students who have gone on to professional careers in the industry, as well as become teachers of drama, singing and dance and of course those who have transferred their skills to other areas as confident and resilient adults.
You might want to learn for the love of it, or it might be your future career, either way, we love what we do and we love to pass it on to you 🤩.
