Nelson Repertory Theatre's home is in the Theatre Royal in Rutherford Street, Nelson; the oldest wooden working theatre in the Southern Hemisphere. Nelson Repertory Theatre was formed in October 1934, and in 1944 become an incorporated society and purchased the Theatre Royal. In 2001 the Nelson Historic Theatre Trust was formed to take ownership of the building and raise funds for and conduct a co

mprehensive refurbishment. This involved building a new fly tower with modern, state-of-the-art stage and backstage facilities, also restoring the Auditorium and Front of House to its former glory. The $6.4m project was completed in 2010 and the Theatre Royal has since become one of NZ’s busiest community theatres. The Theatre Royal is a very special place. Even when it is empty with dust motes dancing in the shaft of a single spotlight, you can stand on the stage and sense the echoes of a century of laughter, music and drama. Nelson Repertory Theatre strives to continue this link between theatre and community - live performance has the ability to connect people and to connect with people. The more the merrier, so join with us to laugh with those who laugh and even cry with those who cry.

Just a wee reminder that this survey is about which productions you'd like to see Nelson Repertory Theatre bring to stage, not just to see at the Theatre.
A couple of folks have got that a wee bit mixed up. The Theatre Royal books bands & touring companies; we are a community theatre group of volunteers. Thank you to those who have already completed the form, you are helping to guide the direction. More feedback would be super welcome.

Nelson Repertory Theatre has a long and rich history of providing opportunities for the people of this area to be involved with, or attend, stage productions which they would not easily be able to.
