Mary-Jane Steffens is our Feature Artist this month.

Her creative career for over 25 years has concentrated mostly on graphic and web design but portrait and figure work has always been her passion and is now her main focus.

MJ says: "I explore classical poses and compositions with an impressionist eye. My aim is to create artwork that draws you in and rewards close observation.

With Edgar Degas and Mary Cassatt as key influences, I have developed a style that is built from thousands of directional pastel pencil strokes, layering colour and form with a technique that forsakes blending in favour of texture and movement."

MJ has also recently been accepted as a member of the Nelson Suter Art Society, and will be exhibiting along with other new members in 'Freedom of Expression' at the McKee Gallery from 22 June - 19 July.
