Wow — Waiohiki Creative Arts Village was absolutely buzzing today!

Raku wood firing with John Gisborne & crew, a glass casting workshop with the lovely Lou Mathieson, upcycling creations with the talented Roberta Made, and stained glass classes with Shakey Art Studio.

So much creativity and inspiration all in one place.

Come on down, get creative, and be part of the magic at Waiohiki and you know everyone is welcome to be their creative self here.

There is strong evidence that creativity is good for us mentally, emotionally, and physically and we all live by it here at Waiohiki Arts Village, a rare space in the Hawke's Bay to try your hand at an art form and what a selection there is .

Cast Glass 3-Day Workshop
with Lou Mathieson

DATE: MAY 23 – MAY 30SPACE: WAIOHIKI ARTS VILLAGE

Join glass artist Lou Mathieson for a hands-on, creative cast glass experience and learn the beautiful lost-wax casting process.

Over three workshop days you will design, shape and cast your own unique lead crystal glass bowl, or birds for inside, outside in your garden, or the wall, or small bud vase, guided step-by-step in a relaxed and supportive studio environment. Create something truly special.

What you will do:

• Design and create your own bespoke glass bowl, birds or bud vases
• Learn traditional lost-wax casting techniques
• Prepare moulds and cast real lead crystal glass
• Finish and take home a one-of-a-kind glass artwork

Location:

Waiohiki Arts Village, Studio G, 1184 Korokipo Road, Napier

Dates:

Sat 23 May 2026, 10:00am–5:00pm

Sun 24 May 2026, 10:00am–5:00pm

Sat 30 May 2026, 10:00am–2:00pm

Workshop highlights:

• No previous experience needed
• All materials and tools provided
• Small group, personalised guidance
• A friendly and inspiring creative atmosphere

Limited places – bookings essential

Cost: $500 per person, payable before the class starts.

This includes everything unless you want to go bigger which means paying for extra glass.

Everyone gets 1kg of glass included in the cost.
