Blithe Spirit by Noel Coward - Our Art Deco play for 2027!
To be directed by Jonathan Smith MNZM
Production Season: 19th February – 6th March 2027
Audition Dates: 6th and 9th September 2026

Do you want to be part of this witty, sparkling comedy showcasing Noël Coward's trademark humour and clever dialogue? These are the characters we are looking to cast:

Charles Condomine (40s) – A successful novelist; charming, witty and increasingly exasperated.

Ruth Condomine (40s) – Charles's practical, sophisticated and composed second wife.

Elvira Condomine (40s) – Charles's glamorous, mischievous first wife… now a ghost.

Madame Arcati (40+) – An eccentric, energetic and unconventional medium whose séance sets the story in motion.

Dr George Bradman (Male 50+) – A friendly, good-natured local doctor and dinner guest (or Dr Georgina Bradman, Female 50+, with the same characteristics as George)

Mrs Violet Bradman (50+) – George's cheerful, slightly scatterbrained wife with a warm personality (or Miss Violet Bradman, female 50+, Dr Georgina’s spinster sister with the same personality as Mrs Bradman)

Edith (20s) – The Condomines' nervous but loyal maid, providing plenty of comic moments.

That's it folks! The local TheatreFest for Hawkes Bay is complete and we are so proud of the entries this year. The talent and hard work gone into the shows has been outstanding. We are pleased to announce the show moving forward to the next round of the North Island regionals in Masterton this September is 'Challenger 1986'.

A big round of applause for all those involved. Thank you to all casts, crews, volunteers, members and patrons. Without your support, these events wouldn't be possible!

A special thanks to Jo Carpenter for adjudicating the event and her valuable feedback to the teams!

Congratulations to the 'Challenger 1986' team. We will post updates of the rest of the TheatreFest competition as it progresses!

🎭 AUDITION NOTICE ✨️

Our Art Deco play for 2027!

Blithe Spirit by Noël Coward is a classic comedy in which novelist Charles Condomine invites the eccentric medium Madame Arcati to conduct a séance as research for his next book. To everyone's surprise, she accidentally summons the ghost of Charles's first wife, Elvira. Invisible to everyone except Charles, Elvira delights in disrupting his comfortable life with his second wife, Ruth. As misunderstandings, jealousy and supernatural chaos unfold, Charles finds himself caught between the living and the dead in this witty, sparkling comedy showcasing Noël Coward's trademark humour and clever dialogue. Blithe Spirit premiered in London's West End in 1941.

Directed by Jonathan Smith for the February-March Art Deco season.

Challenger 1986 follows the events of the Challenger space shuttle on the day of the tragic explosion. The writing room of a prestigious children's television show deals with the death of Big Bird, as they grapple with how to heal a grieving nation. This play presents an alternative reality, a last minute change to the occupants of the shuttle - an event that came close to really happening.
