Congratulations to the winners of the Matariki Lantern Design Competition!

We were blown away by the incredible response, with more than 150 lanterns entered. Thank you to everyone who took part and shared your interpretation of Matariki.

Congratulations to our winners:
🌿School Winner – Victoria, Hereworth School
🌿Individuals & Families Winner – The Sheppard Family
🌿Community Winner – Te Kura o Pakipaki

The entries were judged by David Trubridge, who had the difficult task of choosing the winners. Every lantern had its own unique story, but the winning designs stood out for the way they captured the spirit of Matariki through their creativity, choice of materials, storytelling and beautiful use of light.

While the weather meant the Tīrama Kahawai Illuminated Parade couldn't go ahead, it didn't take away from what this competition was all about. Each lantern reflected the maker's own perspective and the significance of Matariki in a meaningful way.

A heartfelt thank you to everyone who entered, along with the schools, whānau, community groups, teachers, organisers and volunteers who helped bring this event to life. Seeing so many thoughtful and inspiring stories of Matariki has been very special.

If you'd like to see the lanterns in person, they'll be on display at the David Trubridge showroom for the rest of the month. We'd love for you to come in and experience these incredible creations up close.
