We're thrilled to welcome back to Hawke's Bay concert pianist Flavio Villani who will perform Mozart's Piano Concerto #23.

“There is something extraordinary about the way Mozart can move between lightness, joy and an almost operatic sense of intimacy, particularly in this concerto. It looks so effortless on the page, but finding that naturalness, transparency and freedom is one of the great challenges - and joys - of playing Mozart."

Peter and the Wolf was composed in 1936 by Sergei Prokofiev. The narrator tells a folk tale and each character is represented by an instrument in the orchestra. Listen out for the bird (flute), duck (oboe), cat (clarinet), Peter (strings) and the wolf (horns) amongst others!

Originally written in 1886, the often humorous Carnival of the Animals is now one of the works Saint-Saëns is best remembered for, and has provided a staple in cello repertoire as well as inspiration for John Williams’ score to the Harry Potter film franchise.
