✨Upcoming Hi-Vis show✨

Introducing _E Tiramarama Ana 2_ by Piupiu Maya Turei on show between the 13th - 30th of June!

_“E Tiramarama Ana 2_ features two large format photographs, one referencing nga pou o te rangi and the other te whare tangata. As esoteric idols these two works speak to whakapapa expanding in all directions, hidden mātauranga and charred manuscripts. Mihi nui kia Hoea! Gallery for initially commissioning the series that these works are drawn from, ōku whanau, Heramaahina Eketone, Thomas Lord, Joanne Francey, Lexi and the ODDLY crew for having me. Mauri ora!”

Piupiu Maya Turei (Wairarapa Moana, Te Atihaunui-a-Paparangi) is an artist and curator living in Ōtepoti. She has exhibited with Hoea! Gallery and was stoked that they took her to the Aotearoa Art Fair in November 2022. She is ½ of E-Kare, a music x art anarchist - punk duo and is the current facilitator of Tini Whetū Project Space, an artist-run gallery with an ethos of loving DIY and hosted by Evening Books and Ōtepoti Possibilities Co-operative.

We can’t wait for you all to see these epic works! 💙

A massive thank you to Grace and Hannah from Samoa House Library for finishing our “Have You Heard?!” programme on a high! We loved hearing more about the history of Samoa House and the way in which it is a free and non-transactional space for all makers and seekers! The beautiful publications brought along also reflected this unique and fun approach. 📕

Make sure to keep updated with all of what they are up to via their Instagram 🛖

✨🦋 Metamorphosis Night! 🦋✨

Party with us on Friday, 16th June from 6pm to celebrate all of Oddly’s achievements to date and as we shift into being solely artist studios!
For the rest of 2023, our gallery programme will morph into more space for working artists and opportunities for workshops, talks and public events.

We’d love to have you round for a fun time to thank you for all the support you’ve shown us so far!

If you would like to contribute to the night with poetry, music etc let us know by DM!

We hope to see you then! 💙

“Interim Express is an invitation to linger in the meanwhile instead of desiring to be on the move or actively in progress towards a goal or outcome.”

From 12pm on the 9th of June, linger in the gallery with us and Samantha Cheng for an artist talk behind her current show - Interim Express!
We will delve into ideas around disappointment, time, space and waiting in traffic… So don’t miss it and we hope to see you then! 💙

It was a pleasure to have Te Ara with us last Saturday, so generously sharing her time, mahi and passions with us!
We discussed having pillars in our practices, the politics around using whenua in an art practice and fostering an attitude of openness to change, learning and self confidence.

Keep an eye on Te Ara’s exciting projects this year as both artist and supervisor at Whitecliffe! Thank you once again for your time and support 💙

Join us next week for our final talk as part of the 'Have you heard?!' series! We are excited to have Bonni, Hannah and Grace, from Samoa House Library with us to share more about the space and how it seeks to build up the Pasifika community in Tāmaki Makaurau and continue to provide access to history and culture.

Samoa House Library (SHL), is an initiative that emerged in response to the closures of specialist libraries at The University of Auckland in 2018. SHL is an independent art library offering free alternative education programming and annual artist residencies. We sublet nine studio spaces and house a collection of approximately 7000 books; largely donated or purchased through charitable funds. As kaitiaki at Samoa House Library, it is important to us, wherever possible, to draw the Pasifika community back to this historical building.

---

Over the past few months ODDLY will be hosting six artists who have experience across a range of sectors in the art world. With Have You Heard? we aim to make it easier to gain insight into topics such as art writing, building an online art profile, working and teaching in the arts and applying for funding. We believe sharing our knowledge and experience of existing in the art world is so important. We hope you’ll enjoy the talks and gain a few helpful tips!

Have You Heard? Would not have been possible without the support of The Neighbourhood Arts and the Albert-Eden Local Board!
