Introducing ‘Love Birds’  - a gorgeous, heart-warming new work from Karen Walters.

Karen’s latest piece consists of a revolution of 5 sculptured Rimu forms which hang out from the wall creating a sense of depth, movement, light and shadow.
 
‘Love Birds’ is symbolic of love – love for someone, love for nature, love for freedom. It exudes strong positive energy while being sculpted out of exquisite and resilient Rimu – rescued and revived after falling in the Christchurch earthquakes.

Shane Dudley’s striking new piece ‘Whanake (Evolve)’ has just arrived at Artform and we can’t stop marvelling at it!

Through his impressive and stunning sculptural work, Dudley creates homages to our nation’s past and multicultural make-up.

Whanake is made in the shape of a hybrid Adze blade - a vital tool used by early Māori for carving out waka and making weapons. The rusty blade is in reference to the British influence when new stronger metals arrived and is scribed with the most beautiful swirling whales.

Shane Dudley's larger than life "My Hei Matau" is as impressive and striking. At such a large scale it brings to mind Maui and the story of how he fished up Te Ika-roa-a-Māui with a great hook fashioned out of a jaw bone.

”This piece signifies the transition/evolution from traditional materials to modern stronger, harder-wearing materials. In this case, bone to steel. As in life, we must always strive to adapt/evolve into a stronger better version of ourselves.

The Hei Matau is also now a symbol of strength, prosperity, good luck and safe travel over water. “

Karen Walters's latest piece "A Drop in the Ocean" is a stunningly striking artwork. Its undulating forms are carved from very special ancient Swamp Kauri letting the light dance across its luminous texture. It is definitely one to witness in person.

"In the whole scheme of things everything you do is just a drop in the ocean but every drop in the ocean still has an effect. ‘Drop in the Ocean’ commands attention, she is large, layered, and vibrating on the wall with her rippling depth of form and shadows"

We want to extend a huge thank you to everyone who came out last weekend to celebrate the opening of Art & Alchemy. The weather was perfect, the wine was flowing, and most importantly, the art was impressive! For those who couldn't make it, you still have a chance to see these special pieces in the gallery until April 12th."
