RACING AT DAD'S DRAGS THIS SUNDAY? PLEASE READ!

Online entries have now closed, but if you missed the deadline, you can still enter on the day!

Whether you're already entered or you're planning to sign up on Sunday morning, here's what you need to know.

GATES OPEN - 7:00 AM

Gate entry is $20 per person, with kids 14 and under FREE.

Please do not park on Manaia Road before 7:00 am. If you arrive early, please wait on South Belt Road until the gates open.

SCRUTINEERING - 7:00 AM TO 9:00 AM

All race vehicles must go through scrutineering.

Scrutineering will take place in the staging lanes, and there'll be officials there to show you where to go.

REGISTRATION - 7:00 AM TO 9:00 AM

All racers must also register at the yellow Pit Control container.

Please make sure you complete both scrutineering and registration before 9:00 am.

COSTS

Race entry - $50
NZDRA Day Affiliation - $30 if required

Passenger - $30 per person

Remember, two drivers can share the same car. The additional driver must meet the same requirements and register on Sunday morning and the cost is $50.

NEW RACERS' BRIEFING - 9:30 AM

First time down the strip? We've got you covered.

Grant will take our new racers through the basics on the startline, explain what to expect and answer your questions before you make your first pass.

DRIVERS' BRIEFING - APPROX. 9:45 AM

All racers must attend the drivers' briefing.

We'll also point out our new Racer Mentor, Geoff Kydd, so new racers know who they can approach during the day if they need some advice or have a question.

A FEW FINAL REMINDERS

Street-legal vehicles only
No slicks
Bring a compliant helmet (both drivers & passengers)
Drivers need suitable clothing and footwear
If you're taking a passenger, make sure their paperwork is completed too

Give yourself plenty of time on Sunday morning. Getting there early means you can get through the gate, scrutineering and registration without having to rush.

Then it's time to have some fun!

Dad's Drags is shaping up to be an absolute cracker this Sunday, with everything from everyday street cars and utes through to some seriously cool performance machinery already confirmed.

There's still time to add your car to the list - but not for much longer!

ONLINE ENTRIES CLOSE TONIGHT AT 8:00 PM.

It costs no more than $100 all up to enter and race, so if you've been thinking about it, now's the time to get that entry in.

THOUGHT ABOUT HAVING A GO AT DAD'S DRAGS?

Time to stop thinking about it - online entries close at 8pm tomorrow!

You don't need a race car, and you definitely don't need to have the fastest car in town.

Dad's Drags is for road-legal street cars, and the racing format means outright horsepower isn't everything. Your everyday street car can be just as much a part of the action.

Never raced before? That's exactly the sort of event Dad's Drags is. We'll show our first-time racers the basics before they head onto the track, and there'll be experienced racers around if you need some help or advice during the day.

And you can enter and race for no more than $100 all up.

So if you've always wondered what your car would do down the quarter mile, there's only one way to find out!

What a field this is going to be!

MEET OUR NEW RACER MENTOR - GEOFF KYDD

New to drag racing and got a question? Not sure about something before your next run? Or just want some advice from someone who's been doing this for a very long time?

Geoff Kydd is our new Racer Mentor for this season - and the idea actually came from Geoff himself.

Over the years Geoff has introduced plenty of people to drag racing, and he's seen first-hand just how intimidating that first trip to the startline can be.

As Geoff puts it, "I can say they wouldn't have raced without some form of support."

So the idea is pretty simple. Geoff will be another friendly, approachable person our new racers can turn to. He can help get you through that first run, answer questions, go over your timeslip afterwards and explain what all those numbers actually mean - then hopefully give you a few pointers for the next one.

And there's plenty of experience behind the advice.

Geoff's drag racing goes all the way back to the late '80s at Thunder Park. Over the years he's raced Falcons, plenty of Chevs and even a big-block Chevette, as well as racing at tracks and events around the country.

He was also there in the early days of Masterton Motorplex, racing and winning in his '71 Camaro at the very first meeting held at Hood Aerodrome, before our new permanent track was built.

These days Geoff races his '99 Z28 Camaro in Super Street. He's won back-to-back Super Street Series titles at Masterton Motorplex, was runner-up in the 2024/25 NZDRA series, and has developed the Camaro from running 14.0 seconds to a current PB of 11.2 seconds - with more to come.

Grant will point Geoff out at the drivers' briefing, so if you're one of our new racers you'll know exactly who to look for.

And Geoff won't be standing on the sidelines at Dad's Drags - he's entered too, and he'll be racing the Commodore ute, so you'll find him right there in the pits with everyone else.

There'll only be one Geoff and plenty of racers, so he won't always be available, but if you're unsure about something and you see him around, don't be afraid to say hello. That's exactly why he's there.

We're really pleased to have Geoff taking on the role and helping our new racers find their feet.

Thanks Geoff - we reckon this is going to make a real difference to new racers!

"I'D LOVE TO HAVE A GO... BUT MY CAR ISN'T FAST ENOUGH."

Good news - it doesn't need to be!

Have a look at some of the cars already entered for Dad's Drags. You don't need a purpose-built race car or hundreds of horsepower - your everyday street car can be part of the action.

Dad's Drags puts cars into time brackets, so you'll be racing against cars running similar times to yours.

Win your bracket and you'll progress to the Dad's Drags final, where we switch to Dial Your Own (DYO) racing - and that's where consistency and a good reaction time can beat outright horsepower.

So don't worry if your car isn't the quickest.

You don't need to be fast to have a chance - and you definitely don't need to be fast to have fun!
