TWO WHEEL THUNDER - WHAT DOES IT COST TO RACE?

Keen to have a go? Here’s the breakdown:

- Race entry: $100
- Gate entry: $25 per person.
- NZDRA Day Affiliation: $30 if you don’t have an NZDRA licence.

That’s $155 for a rider needing Day Affiliation, or $125 if you already have an NZDRA licence.

The $100 race entry applies to Modified Bike, Competition Bike and Screaming Eagle.

SUNDAY ONLY? ABSOLUTELY!
You can enter on Sunday morning just for Two Wheel Thunder. There’s no requirement to attend Saturday.

WANT SOME PRACTICE ON SATURDAY TOO?
The same $100 racer registration also covers Saturday’s Test & Tune, with no extra race entry charge. Gate entry is separate at $25 per day.

NEVER RACED THE QUARTER-MILE? THIS ONE’S FOR YOU!

Two Wheel Thunder hits Masterton Motorplex on Sunday 1 November - and first-time racers are welcome!

You don’t need the fastest bike to have a shot. It’s all DYO (Dial Your Own): use your practice runs to choose the time you think you can repeat, then race with a handicapped start. Reaction time and consistency count!

Practice first, then straight into eliminations. Knocked out? Head back into Test & Tune or grudge racing and keep the runs coming!

WHAT DO YOU NEED?

Your bike must have a current WoF and registration, or a current tech inspection. You’ll also need:
- An approved helmet with visor - no flip-front helmets.
- Leather motorcycle jacket AND leather motorcycle pants.
- Full-finger leather gloves.
- Full leather motorcycle boots at least 275mm high from the base of the heel. No elastic-sided boots.

Textile/Cordura riding gear isn’t permitted.

HOW FAST WILL YOU GO?

The safety gear thresholds below refer to speed at the end of the quarter-mile, not your bike’s maximum top speed - here are some examples give some perspective:

- 2004 Suzuki SV650S: about 109mph (175km/h).
- 2002 Harley-Davidson V-Rod: about 115mph (185km/h).
- 2003 Honda CBR600RR: about 130mph (209km/h).
- 1999 Suzuki Hayabusa: about 145mph (233km/h).

These are examples only - your bike, modifications, riding and conditions will affect the result.

Above 120mph (193km/h), you need a one-piece leather suit or two-piece leather suit joined by a full-circumference zip, with knee, elbow and shoulder armour or reinforcement.

Above 140mph (225km/h), a back protector is mandatory. It’s recommended for everyone. Dedicated race bikes have additional gear requirements regardless of speed.

For the first time since the old MMP gold passes, season passes are back! One pass gives one person access to both days of all five main drag racing meetings - saving $50 compared with buying daily gate tickets:

THE 2026/27 SEASON STARTS HERE!

Our first meeting of the season is Test & Tune, open to all classes on both days.

SATURDAY
Gates open: 7:00am
Registration and scrutineering: 7:00am - 8:45am
Racing starts: 10:00am

SUNDAY
Gates open: 7:00am
Racing starts: 9:00am

If you're just coming for Test & Tune:
- Open to all classes
- Your racer registration covers both days
- You must register and complete scrutineering on Saturday

BIKE RACERS - THIS ONE'S FOR YOU!

Sunday also includes TWO WHEEL THUNDER, a bike-only competition meeting for:
- Modified Bike
- Competition Bike
- Screaming Eagle

If you enter your bike for Test & Tune on Saturday, you can race in Two Wheel Thunder on Sunday at no extra cost.

Get knocked out? No problem - head back into Test & Tune and keep racing.

Only want to race Sunday? Bike registration will be open from 7:30am - 8:30am, with the normal racer entry fee applying.

Bikes must be road legal with a current WoF and registration, or have a current tech inspection.
