“It is told that the kākā brought small pebbles back to Aotearoa each containing the mana of Hawaiki – the tapu land. ‘Ō kākā’ being food for the journey. E hara i te mea, he kotahi tangata nāna i whakaara te pō. It is not something of recent times, but a tradition brought from Hawaiki.”
