Just 10 days after we made these, they came out of the kiln this morning ❤️ we rushed the process with a 24h candling, so they dried properly before bisque firing. Then they got some lovely glaze and went into the bisque fire cone 6, with a 20 minute hold. The results are stunning and baby mama came and picked up her piece, the beautiful green one 🥰

What an amazing experience. This was my first time making baby belly bowls, and I have wanted to do this for a long time.

Look at this gorgeous baby mama, surrounded by her whanau and best friends. Very touching session and a memory for life.
Thank you Alana-jade Hodges AJ for the trust you put in me. I am so excited to have these baby belly bowls glazed and finished. Fingers crossed they survive the rest of the process of drying and firing 🤞🏼

In a couple of months we will start offering the service of making baby belly bowls in our studio ❤️

Baking dish workshop all done ❤️

This is what we love, filling the studio with people who haven't ever touched clay and who just get this "wow" in their eyes as the course goes on. We had a wonderful group of people today (again - we're so lucky with the people who come here!), and it's been a blast.

Today was a bit different though:
These people designed their own baking dishes. They cut out the pieces. They assembled the pieces into a baking dish. They decorated and underglazed their baking dishes. Just like that!

Now it's up to the drying and firing process to see if the pieces turn out to be fully functional. We cross our fingers 🤞🏼

Lovely having you in the studio!

We have some amazing people coming to our studio having 1-1 lessons. Watching them learn and evolve is wonderful. Thank you for the confidence you put in us, we appreciate you.

Getting your hands on some clay, letting yourself just disappear into this magical, non-judgmental and peaceful hobby, is something you would never regret. Trust us.

Everything about this wonderful, natural medium is good for you. Even sanding the bottoms. Even finding a cracked piece amongst the fired pieces. Even scrapping your piece that you had such high hopes for, even before it became anything.

Why?

It teaches you something.
It keeps you grounded. And humble. And grateful.

Put your hands or your feet into soil, sand or dirt. It grounds you. It makes you feel alive.

Clay? Same thing, yeah. It consists of all of those things.

Anyhow, enough babbling. Come and say hello to us when we're showing our sweet faces in Mangonui Hall this Saturday ❤️

Fridays in the ceramics studio are the best. Starting the day with Clay Circle and then it's normally our own projects for the rest of the day. Today though, we had a wonderful lady coming in on a 1-1 session. What a great day! Happy weekend ❤️
