It's been a busy couple of weeks for our roopu as we finally get back out and about in Tāmaki.

Appreciate everyone who has asked us to be part of their special kaupapa.

What happens when you pull together a group of kids who are strangers in the same community and use kapa haka as the vehicle to bring them together? Magic happens and they become whānau ☺️

Otara you were on fire tonight! Massive effort from our tamariki ❤

We had the pleasure of celebrating the 80th Birthday of whaea Isobel lastnight 🥰. What a huge milestone.

Can you imagine all the life lived in 80 years 😱? The whānau requested the classic waiata "E Ipo" and we were delighted it sparked emotion as she had memories of an uncle singing this waiata to her with his guitar.

Thank you to the whānau for having HIWA at such a special celebration ❤⭐

Regardless how big or small HIWA will support whatever capacity you wish to incorporate waiata Māori and ngā mahi a rēhia in to your event, occasion, kura etc.

Thank you Northcote Early Learning Centre for acknowledging the importance of this for our tamariki.

We are excited to see what we can draw from our tamariki over the next 10 weeks.

No better way to start Matariki ⭐

Got to catch up with the super women herself this morning 🧞‍♀️. The countdown is on before we start practicing with our Otara tamariki. A beautiful initiative that HIWA are grateful to be amongst.

Exciting times ahead and this lady along with a few others have made it all possible.

It's work experience on another level. The amount of talent and skill amongst our Rangatahi is mindblowing!

When HIWA was created there was always a desire to harness and involve our Rangatahi in the mahi that we did and ultimately pass on the knowledge and skills that we've gained.

Very simular to any other job I guess where you pass on skills, knowledge, the ins and outs etc......however it hits a wee different when teaching this kind of mahi also helps reconnect people to who they are and empowers them to share stories of their tūpuna through waiata and körero.

Yesterday we took 15 kaihaka from Westlake Girls, Kelston Girls and Boys and Lynfield College to open a massive Events Exhibition! Welcoming guests from all over Aotearoa to Tāmaki.

Opportunities like this are rare for some of our kids, but we aim to seek out many more in the hope that it ignites a 🔥 in their puku and reminds them that sharing their Māori-ness is a gift and something that we should be proud of always!

Thank you to the kura and kaiako at these 4 schools who allowed us to share this experience with tamariki.
