Our U14 boys and girls Rotorua teams had a great time at the Rotorua Development Tournament this past weekend.
Our boys started off with some tough games on the first day but then won the rest of their games. They showed huge improvement and Coach Haley was very impressed with their progress as a team.
The girls had a win and a loss on the first day. Their first win helped them get into the crossovers. They won one out of two of their crossover games which got them to get into the top 6. Their last two games were lost with small margins.
Coach Brydie was pleased with their development throughout the tournament especially their strong defence which really forced other teams to work hard to score goals.

Every year the tournament officials choose a group of players who have stood out from across the teams and name the group the ‘Tournament Team’. Raukura from our boys team and Mia from our girls team both made it into their respective tournament teams. Well done Raukura and Mia!

A big thanks to everyone who helped make this trip possible for both the boys and girls and also a big thank you to Rotorua Waterpolo for organizing the tournament!

Good luck to Maya and the NZ U18 team as they prepare for their opening game of the U18 Women’s World Championships in Tenerife.

Their first game is on Sunday, August 16th at 8pm NZT against Türkiye.

Their second game is 11pm NZT on Tuesday, 18th August against Colombia.

Maya and her NZU18 team have been in Barcelona, at BIWPA, preparing for World Champs. They have just finished the Nations Cup where they had a narrow loss in the bronze medal match against Croatia, losing 16-14. Maya is having a great experience, learning lots and enjoying playing at the amazing pools there. Now the team is about to head off to Tenerife for World Champs.

Safe travels to Hutt's Maya McLay, who has officially departed New Zealand with the New Zealand U18 Women's Water Polo Team as they begin their journey to Europe.

The team will first attend a training camp at the Barcelona International Water Polo Academy (BIWPA) before travelling to Tenerife to compete at the World Aquatics U18 Women's Water Polo Championships.

We're incredibly proud to see Maya representing both Hutt Water Polo and New Zealand on the world stage. We wish her and the team all the very best for a successful tournament.
