From traditional to contemporary art, visitors can encounter a wide range of mediums including painting, sculpture, ceramics, jewellery, carving, textiles, and more. This artistic diversity reflects the cultural tapestry of the Far North and offers a glimpse into the innovative minds of its local artists.

UPDATE ON KOAST – Tai Tokerau Art Trail

Over the past few years KOAST has grown into a much-loved event celebrating the creativity of artists across Tai Tokerau. Thanks to the many artists, volunteers, supporters and visitors who have helped make the trail such a success. Today KOAST is recognised nationally and draws visitors to Northland from across the country.

After careful consideration, the trustees have decided that KOAST will pause for 2026 and return in 2027.

Running a region-wide trail is a significant undertaking, and taking a year to regroup will allow the event to return strong and sustainable.

In 2026, Creative Northland and the Bay of Islands Creative Charitable Trust will support Creative Discoveries, helping visitors continue to discover studios, galleries and creative spaces across the region.

KOAST began in Kerikeri and has grown into a region-wide celebration of art across Tai Tokerau, and that vision remains firmly in place for the future.

We look forward to welcoming artists and visitors back to KOAST in 2027.

Through the Lens - The Art of Janette Walker

Photographic Art – More than just a moment: Framed, Focused, and Full of Feeling. Janette Walker brings her love of nature and photography to life in every frame.

Her work captures the delicate beauty of flowers with both precision and softness - sometimes sharply detailed, capturing what the naked eye doesn’t see. Yet, there are times her work is dreamily textured. Janette’s work is truly beautiful, it is stunning.

If you were lucky enough to visit Janette’s Studio during KOAST, you will know her work and, if you missed out on her ‘series of metal prints for KOAST’, guess what, she’s had another set of metal images printed, and is ready for opening her studio again this year.

If you haven’t seen Janette’s work, then this is your chance to view it in person. Janette had such an awesome response during KOAST this year, she has decided to open three times during November and December.

It’s the perfect chance to see her floral photography up close and discover the detail and emotion behind her images. Come and see botanical photography that reveals beauty in both clarity and dreamlike nuance.
