The 408-seat theatre attracts international and local shows to the Bay of Islands. It also has multi-purpose, flexible spaces available for the community and commercial companies to use. Whether you are going to a conference, workshop, board meeting or other event, there is always something on at the Turner Centre! The Turner Centre hosts international and national touring productions, as well as

locally produced performances and this produces a full and varied yearly programme. The other spaces have a number of community and commercial clients that use the versatile spaces for a wide range of activities - meetings, seminars, conferences right through to band practice, choirs and drama clubs. The Turner Centre is a community owned venue run by a charitable, not-for-profit company.

Ozi Ozaa is a 9-piece explosion of African rhythm: funk, jazz, highlife and traditional Ghanaian grooves so infectious, you won’t resist the dance floor. “Ozi Ozaa” means Work and Happiness - and this band delivers both in spades.

A bit of a full-circle moment at the Turner Centre last weekend ❤️

As we welcomed NZ Opera with a mihi whakatau, Kawiti Waetford shared a pretty special story with us. His first experience of opera was right here at the Turner Centre, when he was 14 years old and baritone Philip Rhodes was performing. That experience helped spark his decision to pursue opera himself.

Fast forward a few years, and Kawiti was back on the same stage - this time as an operatic baritone and host of Toiere, with Dame Kiri Te Kanawa in the audience.

Also joining us over the weekend were Far North Mayor Moko Tepania, Kohepū Chicky Rudkin, MP Grant McCallum, Councillors Kelly Stratford Councillor - Far North District Council and John Vujcich, Chair of Te Rūnanga o Ngāti Rēhia Matua Kipa Munro, and New Zealand Opera General Director Brad Cohen.

A pretty special full-circle story, and a reminder of the impact that experiencing the arts can have - and how important it is to have opportunities like these here in Te Tai Tokerau.

Two full houses, two standing ovations, and wonderful support from our community and elected representatives. What a weekend for the arts in the Far North.

Starting this Saturday 5th, our Free Community Yoga sessions with Meg will change to 9:45 AM - 10:45 AM.

We apologise for any inconveniences, but aside from the time change, the show will run as normal! After a busy week, this is a perfect, nourishing way to start the weekend.

Everyone is welcome, come along and be part of something together, maybe learn something new or meet a new friend. No previous experience necessary. BYO yoga mat and something to use as a strap (dressing gown cord).

Written and directed by Ngāpuhi playwright Geoffrey Clendon, Tāke Kurī: The Dog Tax Rebellion brings this remarkable chapter of Te Tai Tokerau history to the stage, blending drama, comedy and history.

Four actors take on more than 20 characters - along with a few canine commentators offering their own wry perspective on events.

✨What a wonderful two days!

The Turner Centre welcomed Toiere this weekend, with two full houses enjoying New Zealand Opera’s powerful fusion of operatic classics and waiata Māori. Both performances received standing ovations.

Hosted by local operatic baritone Kawiti Waetford, the concert celebrated Te Rauora – The Revitalisation and the beauty of te reo Māori. Māori and English subtitles brought added meaning to the classic opera pieces, creating a uniquely Aotearoa experience.

A big thank you to New Zealand Opera and all those who helped to make this happen, to Foundation North, Freemasons Foundation and Creative New Zealand for their support, with a final thank you to all those art lovers who came and filled out the auditorium twice!

🖌️ Open to all, Choose a teacher, Make some art!

Join us for a day of inspiring hands-on workshops, from painting butterflies, acrylics and mixed media, to making recycled rag bowls and hats, creating hue pūoro jewellery, exploring Taonga Pūoro, and getting playful with collage. 🎨

There’s also a fun art workshop for tamariki aged around 5–10.
