🎭 And just like that, THE MAIDS has come to a close.

It’s always a strange feeling at the end of a production. After months of rehearsals, planning, building, problem-solving, late nights, nerves, laughter, and all the tiny details that most people never see, suddenly the lights go down for the last time and the room is quiet again.

But what’s left behind is something pretty special.

The Maids was a fully voluntary community theatre production, brought to life by local people giving their time, energy, skill, and heart to make something meaningful together. That is no small thing.

A huge thank you to director Wendy Irvine, producer Leigh Knight, our cast - Isa Maria, Janna Sicely, and Vivian Thonger - and the wonderful team behind the scenes, including Alan Thomas on set, sound and lighting, Vera D**g as stage manager, and everyone who helped with costumes, hair, photography, front of house, bar, tech, set-up, pack-down, and all the unseen jobs that make theatre possible.

We’re also incredibly grateful to everyone who came along, filled the Black Box, and supported live theatre here in Kerikeri.

There is something genuinely special about having a space like the Black Box in our community. It gives local performers, directors, writers, designers, technicians, and volunteers a place to take risks, learn, connect, and create. It gives audiences a place to sit just a few feet away from the work and share something real, in the room, together.

That’s the magic of community theatre. It’s not just about the shows. It’s about the people who make them, the people who support them, and the community that grows around them.

Thank you to everyone who helped bring The Maids to life. We’re very lucky to have this little theatre, and very lucky to have all of you.

🎭 AUDITIONS ARE THIS WEEKEND FOR THE ROCKY HORROR SHOW

We’ve had record-setting interest already, and because the response has been so strong, we’ve added an extra audition day!

A few slots are still available for SATURDAY 18 APRIL and SUNDAY 19 APRIL, but they won’t last long.

We’re casting all roles, but we especially want to see strong candidates for BRAD, JANET, and ROCKY.

If you’ve been thinking about auditioning, this is the time.

You do not need to be a seasoned performer to come in and give it a shot. We want talented, committed people who are ready to have fun, take direction, and be part of something special.

We’re thrilled to announce that enrolments are NOW OPEN for Term 2 of our Youth Theatre programme! Classes are based on school year levels, offering tailored experiences for students in Years 2 to 13.

What your child can expect in Term 2:

- Seniors (Years 10-13): Advanced acting skills, characterisation, and script work.

- Intermediates (Years 7-9): Building performance confidence and exploring creative storytelling.

- Junior (Years 5-6): Fun, engaging drama exercises and script introduction.

- Primary 1 (Years 2-4): Creative play and foundational drama techniques.

Classes start Monday, 20th April, and run for nine weeks. For Term 2, the focus will be on developing acting skills, characterisation, and script work. Junior, Intermediate, and Senior students will be working towards an optional performance opportunity later in the year! Keep an eye out for more on this coming soon!! 😉
