The Carlton Gallery is proud to hold the IWA a Matatriki exhibition.
Held during the season of Matariki, IWA brings together nine artists whose individual practices span a range of mediums, stories, and creative approaches. Together they present eighty-one works that reflect personal journeys, cultural connections, and creative expression.
The name IWA reflects the number nine, the foundation of the exhibition. Each artist has committed to creating nine works, forming a collective body of work that explores connection, reflection, renewal, and identity.
Presented during Matariki, the Māori New Year, IWA acknowledges a time to remember those who have passed, celebrate the present, and look ahead with intention. Like the stars of Matariki gathering in the winter sky, each artist contributes a unique voice while helping to create something larger than themselves.
Working across painting, ceramics, sculpture and contemporary Māori art practices, the artists of IWA invite visitors to pause, reflect, and engage with stories shaped by culture, place, memory, and aspiration.
