MURIWHENUA KI ITĀRIA
A contingent of 22 kaihaka from Te Rōpū O Muriwhenua recently travelled to Verona, Italy, joining alongside 23 other kaitākaro and artists to participate in the prestigious Tocatii Traditional Street Games Festival. This year marked the 23rd edition of the Tocatì Festival, with New Zealand being invited as the Guest of Honour. The trip spanned 14 days, running from 13 September to 26 September.
Our delegation from Te Tai Tokerau was truly unique, bringing together a rich mixture of talent and creativity. Over the course of the festival, our performers, kaitākaro and artists featured prominently, showcasing not only our cultural expression but also the strength and mana of our people internationally.
The experience was nothing short of phenomenal. From the vibrant festival atmosphere to the breathtaking sites, we visited, most memorably the historic Verona Arena Colosseum, our rōpū was able to connect, share, and be inspired in ways that will stay with us for a lifetime.
This incredible journey would not have been possible without the support of our sponsors and champions:
• Wiremu Sarich & Anna Tripp– Tatuuroa Ltd
• Francesco Mecarelli & Maria Mariotti
• Ngāti Kuri Trust Board – Main Sponsor
• Te Hiku Hauora – Main Sponsor
• Ngai Takoto – Sponsor
We extend our deepest gratitude for your belief in our kaupapa and for enabling us to represent our people, our culture, and our region of MURIWHENUA - Te Tai Tokerau with pride on the world stage.
