🎻 THE NEW ZEALAND STRING QUARTET IS COMING TO KAIKŌURA! 🎻

Friday 18 September | 7pm | The Mayfair

Behind every piece of music is a story — and this September, the New Zealand String Quartet brings those stories to life at the Mayfair.

Their Anthology programme takes audiences on a musical journey through centuries and across continents, featuring works by Henry Purcell, Anthony Ritchie, F***y Mendelssohn, Benjamin Britten and Antonín Dvořák, alongside excerpts from the Danish String Quartet’s acclaimed Last Leaf. 🎶

From the sweeping melodies of Dvořák’s beloved “American Quartet” to the playful rhythms of Aotearoa composer Anthony Ritchie, this is an evening packed with beautiful music, history, emotion and storytelling.

And you don't need to be a classical music expert! Each piece is introduced by the Quartet members themselves, sharing the stories and inspiration behind the music.

🍿 The man, the myth, the legend... LOMU!

🌟 We have one new release this week. 'Lomu' is a feature documentary that explores the life, legacy, and private struggles of rugby union's first global superstar, Jonah Lomu. It presents a deeply human portrait of the legendary All Black.

🎨 New exhibition: 'E Rua Ka Kotahi | Two, as One' features local artist Marion Flavell & her daughter Tui Johnson as they celebrate their appreciation of the beauty of creation. Opening night is on the 4th of September from 7-9pm. We hope to see you there.

We’re delighted to present E Rua Ka Kotahi | Two, as One, a beautiful exhibition bringing together the work of mother and daughter artists Marion Flavell and Tui Johnson.

Of Kāi Tahu descent, Marion and Tui draw inspiration from the ever-changing landscapes and natural beauty of Aotearoa. Through their individual artistic styles, this exhibition celebrates two generations of artists connected by a shared sense of wonder and appreciation for the world around them.
