I visited Kaiapoi yesterday morning to take a look at the bridge on what was Day 1 of its refurbishment journey. Over the coming weeks there will be scaffolding installed, the iconic blue concrete balustrades removed, repairs made and all new balustrades installed.

It has been a year since I came onto this project - to design artistic panels to be placed in the new bridge structure - and I have learnt so much. I feel deeply honoured to be involved, and with that comes a real sense of responsibility to honour what came before and the love that people have for their Kaiapoi history. I hope the new bridge becomes an enduring part of Kaiapoi's story.

Twenty years of the Kaiapoi Art Expo and it just keeps getting better and better. Well that’s what we hear from our audience and judging by the numbers that turn up to take a look at the work of our talented Waimakariri artist, it’s true.

We hope 2026 will be another big year for art and artists.

You’ll find a few changes this year, we’ve changed some aspects of the layout to allow more space for an improved experience.

We’ve expanded into the upstairs former restaurant for the Schools Expo and some artist demonstrations.

And to celebrate our 20 years we’ve invited previous Public Choice winners to exhibit a special artwork which will be showcased on the stage.

Another birthday treat is an award for the best Kaiapoi themed painting and as usual the amazing support from our loyal sponsors has ensured this will be an event to remember.
We look forward to seeing you there.
