Wonderful news to share on this mid-winter sunny day! South Coast Arts Trail has been named a finalist in the 2026 Wellington Airport Regional Community Awards, Wellington City category.

Five years of artists opening their studio doors, community venues throwing open their spaces, local businesses and sponsors backing us, volunteers who give their time because this place and this community means something to them, and a community that makes the south coast feel like somewhere worth belonging to. It has been a year with its challenges on the South Coast, which makes this recognition feel all the more meaningful.

This one is for everyone who shows up for this wild little corner of Wellington.

Thanks so much to the team at Wellington Airport Regional Community Awards, and all the best to all the finalists!

Winners announced 29 July.

The trail weekend itself is 12-13 September, and we have a lot to share between now and then!

Island Bay at dusk, through the lens of South Coast Arts Trail artist, award-winning photographer

With a background in architectural photography and a deep love for Wellington’s built environment, Andy’s work captures moody, cinematic moments in urban spaces. His art photography explores themes of place, memory, and atmosphere, often drawing on the stillness of night, the beauty of shadows, and the quiet drama of architecture.

His limited-edition prints are collected here and overseas. Andy was a National Contemporary Art Award, Finalist, Te Whare Taonga o Waikato in August 2025 and has also exhibited at The National Library in Wellington.

This September he's opening his studio for the 2026 South Coast Arts Trail. There's still time to join him on it!

South Coast artists, registrations for the 2026 Trail close at 11:59pm this Sunday, 7 June. It only takes a few minutes.

Introducing Jeannette Troon, Artist, and our very own South Coast Arts Trail artist and community liaison. 🎨

"Making art is like learning another language. Whatever the form, medium, subject or intention, the act of creating art is like a means of communication. Some would say it's our biggest work as humans."

If that resonates, there's still time to join Jeannette.

South Coast artists, registrations for the South Coast Arts Trail (12–13 September), close this Sunday, 7 June. Last year an estimated 4,000 people explored the trail and this is your chance to put your work in front of them.

Jeannette's work, all in oil: Archer, pausing · Dad, circa 1930 · Tui, running.

Meet .isaacs.clay, a ceramicist and one of many talented artists on the South Coast of Wellington. Zoë works from her studio, throwing on a manual kick wheel using clays from Aotearoa. Her focus is functional pottery, beautiful things made to be part of everyday life.

“It’s quite calming, the whole process, and I really have to be paying attention to what’s going on.”

The South Coast Arts Trail runs 12–13 September 2026.
