Moment in time⏳it's 1976, Stevie Nicks and Lindsey Buckingham have broken up. The Civic is already 70 years old.

One year later in 1977, Nicks wrote Silver Springs and swore Buckingham would never get away from the sound of the woman who loves him.

On 14 November 1906, the Invercargill Town Hall first opened its doors, later becoming the Civic Theatre.

120 years later, we’re still part of Invercargill’s story.

Generations of Southlanders have walked through these doors. From school shows, concerts, dance recitals, community events, big celebrations, international acts, movies, wrestling, and unforgettable nights out - this place has seen it all.

Some came to perform. Some came to support someone they love. Some just came for a good old night out.

No matter the reason, the Civic has always brought people together.

As we head towards the Theatre’s official 120th anniversary this November, we’re taking a moment to celebrate the people and memories that have made it special for generations - and the next generation of stories still to come.
