🎬 MY MOVIE REVIEW – SENSE & SENSIBILITY (2026) ⭐⭐⭐⭐½ (4.5/5)
I am a HUGE Jane Austen fan, and I'm not afraid to admit that I've watched the 1995 BBC Pride and Prejudice series, along with the 2008 Sense and Sensibility, 2009 Emma and 2007 Persuasion, more times than I care to count!
For me, you simply can't beat a good Jane Austen adaptation on a rainy day. A comfy couch, a cuppa and a bit of period drama – absolute bliss!
So, naturally, I was really looking forward to seeing this latest big-screen adaptation of Sense & Sensibility, and I'm delighted to say I wasn't disappointed.
I thoroughly enjoyed this movie!
The acting is brilliant, the cinematography is stunning, and the characters are wonderfully likeable. But what impressed me most was how realistically the era was portrayed. It wasn't overly romanticised or made to look like some perfect, dreamy world. You really got a sense of the social expectations, restrictions and realities of life at the time, particularly for women.
The costumes and sets were absolutely spot on, and visually, the whole movie was a treat.
Daisy Edgar-Jones is wonderful as Elinor Dashwood, delivering a beautifully restrained performance. She says so much without actually saying very much at all! Esmé Creed-Miles is equally impressive as her passionate and emotional younger sister, Marianne. The contrast between the two sisters works beautifully.
Would I recommend it? Absolutely!
If you're a Jane Austen fan like me, I think you'll really enjoy this adaptation. And even if you're not particularly familiar with her work, there's plenty here to appreciate.
It's beautifully acted, visually stunning and tells a timeless story without losing sight of the realities of the period.
I'm giving Sense & Sensibility a very well-deserved 4½ stars out of 5! ⭐⭐⭐⭐½
And yes, I can already see this one joining my collection of favourite rainy-day movies!
