I have been exceptionally privileged to be part of the judging panel for the Beautiful Bizarre Magazine Art Prize spending days pouring over the incredibly high standard of work in the BearWolf Books Emerging Artist category.

It is uplifting to see that despite everything happening in the world and the attempts of big tech to hinder the creative community, the arts have so many incredible hard working people developing their craft, skill and voice.

Carne Griffiths explore both human and floral forms, figuratively and in an abstract sense using a variety of mediums including tea, coffee, vodka, calligraphy ink and more.
After graduating from Maidstone College of Art, Carne served an apprenticeship and worked as a gold wire embroidery designer for 12 years. This background is part of the reason floral patterns, repetition and flow play a large part in his work.
Carne was one of the first international artists Quirky Fox approached, having admired his work before even opening. His acceptance of our invitation played a large part in Quirky Fox developing into the gallery it is today.

Creating a piece of art and mastering a medium, such as oil, takes a huge amount of time, practice, learning from mistakes and studying both your own work and others that inspire you.
Often we reduce this down to saying someone is talented. A word that doesn’t truely reflect all the work that has gone into developing the necessary skills an artist has.
Occasionally you come across artists that have mastered vastly different mediums such as Jane Siddall, who works in both 3D and 2D.
Jane transforms embroidery, felt, ribbon and wool into exquisite sculptures like ‘Worthy’.
It would be easy to say Jane is talented (which she no doubt is) but you can also see how much work and love goes into her creations.
