Hawke’s Bay Community Orchestra

Hawke’s Bay Community Orchestra The HBCO welcomes adult musicians from early beginners to professional players in a friendly and supportive environment. All are welcome.’

Come and join us whether you're just starting out, resuming playing after a long break, or just want to play beautiful music. The Hawke's Bay Community Orchestra was formed in 2015 and is one of the three orchestras run by the Hawke's Bay Orchestral Society. It is aimed at adult players who are getting back to playing orchestral instruments, taking up a second instrument, or starting from scratch.

Rehearsals are held at St Peter's church in Hastings on Saturday mornings 10am - 11.30am. The orchestra, which has grown this year to include string, woodwind, brass and percussion players, rehearse a range of music from classical to more contemporary arrangements. All adult musicians are welcome to come along and join us. Our mission statement is
‘A group of orchestral musicians who gather to enjoy making music together.

POV: you’ve wandered into the strings sectional and they’re deciding whether to let you stay 👀 Turns out nervous giggling is basically a welcome hug!
A huge thank you to Hastings District Council - Te Kaunihera ā-Rohe o Heretaunga for supporting us, mornings like this are exactly what your funding makes possible 🎶🎻

🎻 Did you know you can support us from your couch?
We're a volunteer driven orchestra powered by community love and every donation, big or small, helps keep the music alive in Hawke's Bay 🧡
From buying music scores to keeping the lights on at rehearsals to bringing affordable concerts to our community - it all adds up, and it all matters.
If you'd like to help us keep playing, our Givealittle page is open and very grateful 🎶

🧡 This one still warms our hearts.
Last year we had the honour of performing for MS Hawke's Bay at the Multiple Steps event and their kind words have stayed with us ever since.
Thank you Multiple Sclerosis Hawke's Bay for having us. It was a privilege to share our music with your community, and we hope to do it all again someday 🎻

Thank you to Hastings District Council - Te Kaunihera ā-Rohe o Heretaunga for their support of our orchestra. The Council has funded our rent for another year so that we can continue to rehearse weekly at St Peter's Church every week.

🎵 Word of the Week 🎵
ANGUS DEI
To play, with a divinely beefy tone 🐄🎻
We aspire to this every Saturday morning. Results may vary.

🎻 This is what progress sounds like 💛
Snippet 1: the violins & violas tackling a tricky passage
Snippet 2: the cellos locking in their part
Snippet 3: both sections together *chef's kiss*
This is why we show up every Saturday morning. Those moments when it all clicks into place are everything 💛
Well done strings! Teresa's 'yay' says it all 👏🏼👌🏼✨
