Shout out to this studio in Australia for absolutely getting it right, especially this recent decade when America is influencing the dance and comp world more than ever. 👏🤍
A child's dance or costume should never be suggestive or sexualized. End of.
Protect young dancers. They have the rest of their lives to dance like adults.
A HOD REMINDER 🧡
A gentle but important reminder as we head into new choreography and performance season.
Our little dancers...especially our 6, 7 and 8 year olds -should never be thrusting, grinding, or performing movement with “stunt” or adult intent.
Movement must always be age-appropriate, technically informed, and developmentally suitable.
Children do not need bra tops in class, hyper-sexualised costuming, or “adult” stylised choreography to look strong or impressive on stage. Strength comes from clean technique, musicality, storytelling and confidence...not imitation of mature themes.
It is our responsibility as educators to:
• Understand where movement vocabulary comes from
• Teach the intention behind it
• Apply it appropriately for the age and emotional maturity of the dancer
• Protect the innocence and wellbeing of our students
Just because a move exists does not mean it belongs on a 7-year-old.
Let’s lead with integrity, education and long-term dancer development. Age-appropriate choreography does not limit creativity....it elevates it.
Thank you for always putting our dancers first.
