🌿 As a business that spends every day helping people enjoy New Zealand’s great outdoors, we believe it’s important that people are aware of issues affecting our conservation land.

Have you heard about the proposed changes to New Zealand’s conservation land?

Greenpeace has described what is unfolding as:

“The biggest attack on conservation land in New Zealand’s history.”

They are raising concerns that proposed changes to the Conservation Act could open up large areas of public conservation land for sale or exchange, stating that:

“A staggering five million hectares — around 60% of all conservation land in Aotearoa” could be affected.

According to Greenpeace, areas that could become eligible for sale or exchange include:

• Pristine beech forests in Lewis Pass
• Ancient podocarp forests on the West Coast
• High-country tussock lands and other treasured natural landscapes

As locals who regularly explore and guide people through some of New Zealand’s most beautiful outdoor environments, this is something we feel is worth paying attention to.

Whether you support or oppose the proposed changes, now is a good time to learn more and make your voice heard.

At Activity Hanmer, we believe the best connections are built outside the office and outside the classroom. There’s something special about tackling challenges, encouraging each other, and sharing laughs surrounded by scenery like this.

Who wouldn’t want this as their meeting room for the day? 🙌
