Whare whakamataku o Whiro Ariki (Lord Whiro’s House of Horrors) An exhibition by Adym Kohi.

Adym Kohi is an artist of Māori and Anglo-Celtic descent based in the Waikato region of Aotearoa. Born and raised in the Bay of Plenty among the sulfuric miasma of Rotorua, he grew up inspired by the many archaic myths and legends of the land, greater Aotearoa, and the vast ancient world beyond.

A lifelong love of horror and storytelling has shaped these inspirations to form his unique collections of dark fantasy art.

Exciting things happening in our gallery and rehearsal room! We recently held an exhibition Mudras to Motifs that celebrated the rich diversity of Indian dance styles, stunning costumes and jewellery, and traditions from across India! 🇮🇳

Congratulations to Shai Shailaja Ravikumar who led the interactive and inclusive dance workshop. The highlight of the morning for sure! 🪷

Mudras to Motifs is an Indian cultural dance & jewellery exhibition by Shailaja Ravikumar

Shai’s mission is simple yet powerful: to promote Indian arts and culture in Aotearoa and share the joy, rhythm, and storytelling of music and dance with everyone who walks through her doors.

🧑🏾‍🩰Shai is also running an interactive Indian Dance Workshop on Saturday 25th July, 10am-11:30am

This workshop offers a live glimpse into the diversity of Indian dance through 3 styles:

Bharatanatyam: Watch a short classical demo and learn basic hand gestures and expressions.

Folk Dance: Join in on easy, energetic steps from traditional folk styles, taught in a group format.

Bollywood: Learn a short choreographed sequence to a popular track – fun, accessible and made for everyone.

Tickets are $5pp, cash on arrival.

New exhibition coming this month! Bringing the community together through dance irrespective of their cultural backgrounds. Shai teaches across a wide range of age groups – from young children taking their first steps to adults rediscovering their love for movement and culture.

Shai’s mission is simple yet powerful: to promote Indian arts and culture in Aotearoa and share the joy, rhythm, and storytelling of music and dance with everyone who walks through her doors.

Shai is also running an interactive Indian Dance Workshop on Saturday 25th July, 10am-11:30am

Behind the Practice celebrates the creativity behind one of Hamilton’s longest running creative spaces. The exhibition brings together a range of artworks made by the staff of Arts for Health.
