The Kaleidoscope opening event is tomorrow!
Sat 10th October, 10am-12pm.

This exhibition is a part of NZ Mental Health Awareness Week, and run by the Return Recovery and Wellbeing Workshops.

Exhibiting creative pieces from those with lived experience of mental illness. It shows their stories, passion and the importance of creativity and art in the journey towards recovery.

Come along and support this meaningful exhibition and support local artists and makers of Kirikiriroa!

Celebrating not only creativity and artistic expression, but also the values that lie at the heart of occupational therapy. Each piece reflect observation, empathy, reflection and an understanding of how creative activities can support health, wellbeing, identity, and engagement in everyday life.

If you have a creative project you’d like to bring to life, now is the time to submit your idea. 
 
The gallery is a versatile space that allows audiences to be fully immersed in creative work, art, exhibitions, staged readings, workshops, ticketed events and more.

This Saturday! Join us in the gallery for Ruth’s opening exhibition from 12-pm 👩🏼‍🎨

Paintings explore tension and harmony between the organic and the constructed. The exhibition brings together two distinct visual languages – fluid acrylic gestures and the disciplined precision of wrapped thread – to examine how opposing forces can coexist within a single surface. The interplay between paint and thread is crucial – stitched lines act as both connectors and boundaries – they tether the abstract forms while simultaneously implying tension and fragility. The surface shifts between control and chance, giving the sense that the artist is mapping something intangible: perhaps emotion, time, or loss.

Opening this Saturday: The Architecture of Connection by Ruth Hickman.

Ruth’s paintings explore tension and harmony between the organic and the constructed.

The interplay between paint and thread is crucial – stitched lines act as both connectors and boundaries – they tether the abstract forms while simultaneously implying tension and fragility.

The exhibition features canvases of all sizes, both stretched and unstretched, inviting you to look closer and explore the connections between paint, thread, colour and space.

Brimming with inspiration.. Here are a few snaps of Western Heights High School from Rotorua enjoying the works of Adym Kohi’s Taiwhetuki exhibition. 
 
The theme is Whare whakamataku o Whiro Ariki (Lord Whiro’s House of Horrors). Adym’s lifelong love of horror and storytelling has shaped his unique collections of dark fantasy art. 
 
The last day is tomorrow! So make sure you pop in and check out the exhibition if you haven’t already.

TAIWHETUKI is here! Exhibiting until the 5th of September.

Whare whakamataku o Whiro Ariki (Lord Whiro’s House of Horrors) An exhibition by Adym Kohi.

Adym Kohi is an artist of Māori and Anglo-Celtic descent based in the Waikato region of Aotearoa. Born and raised in the Bay of Plenty among the sulfuric miasma of Rotorua, he grew up inspired by the many archaic myths and legends of the land, greater Aotearoa, and the vast ancient world beyond.

A lifelong love of horror and storytelling has shaped these inspirations to form his unique collections of dark fantasy art.

Exciting things happening in our gallery and rehearsal room! We recently held an exhibition Mudras to Motifs that celebrated the rich diversity of Indian dance styles, stunning costumes and jewellery, and traditions from across India! 🇮🇳

Congratulations to Shai Shailaja Ravikumar who led the interactive and inclusive dance workshop. The highlight of the morning for sure! 🪷
