A Czech Gambit is coming to The Meteor!♟️

If you liked the film Queen’s Gambit you will love this.

A Czech Gambit, by Hamilton playwright Russell Armitage, was commissioned by the Prague International Chess Festival and performed at there in 2023. It was possibly the first play by a New Zealander to be performed in the Czech Republic, and now Hamilton audiences will be the first in New Zealand to see it.

This uplifting new one-man play is inspired by true events, and shares the remarkable experience of the abseiling activist during his 48 hours at Rimutaka Prison.

Aotearoa was set alight in 2023 when the group ‘Te Waka Hourua’ painted over the English Treaty of Waitangi Exhibition at Te Papa to read… ‘No. Her Majesty the Queen of England the alien. ration the Queens veges.’

Provoking strong opinions across the country – some sang their praises, others called for blood.
