Stands about 1.5mtrs tall & weighs plenty. Available from "The Mandarin Tree" gallery. Will look great in a garden in six months once fully rusted.

Prior to Christmas I was approached by the Magness twins and asked to create a trophy for their NZ based adventure race “The MAGNIficent”. I didn’t know much about adventure racing except you needed to be extremely fit, determined & totally crazy, as it is days of putting yourself through physical torture😂 However I was delighted to be asked & set about creating a trophy that reflected their logo. I wanted to make the trophy from bits and bobs that adventure racers might use, bike bits, carabiners, compasses etc. I did my bit & then recruited John Taylor from “Cabbage Tree Corner Woodwork” to make the amazing wooden base for the kiwi to sit on. The piece of kauri selected, sanded and left natural before being oiled and polished really makes the trophy a beauty.

Thanks also to Jason & Andy for commissioning this piece and I suggest if you are interested in observing the torture 😂 these two put the racers through check out “ the magnificent” pages.

Sometimes (ok quite a few times) I have a fail 🤣 this is an example of one of those - I tried to make a beautiful ballerina; not once, or twice, or three times, four times I rehashed this. The end result is hidden in Sharon's garden (along with all the other fails), destined never to be seen in public. Described as; not pretty (big nose), one leg way shorter than the other, no bum, once I put a dress on her she looks frumpy. Never mind, its all part of the learning process & she looks ok from a distance 😀- um from a long way off after a couple of wines!
